Eastmans 5/15-5/16

My dad and I went fishing on a back to back marathon charter with Eastman's. Both trips were excellent. I finally got to break in my new rod which I'm really pleased with. We were fishing in the pulpit. I was using a 12oz lav jig and a green/blue fly while my dad used a 14oz lav and a blue fly. I got the 1st fish between us which was a keeper haddock on the jig. My dad got a really nice haddock soon after on the jig. His haddock was a fat 6lb haddock. Capt. Phil called lines up since he wanted to anchor up and get the haddock. I switched over to bait to put some haddock in the boat and so did my dad. We were picking away at haddock then things slowed up so Phil moved us to a different spot to anchor on. I tried jigging again and was getting a fish a cast. All cod I pulled 4 keeper cod from this spot and many shorts while my dad stuck to bait for the haddock which he was doing well with. Then we moved again for a haddock hole and picked some more haddock. That got a little slow so we moved to another spot which as soon as lines down was hook ups to haddock but then it shut right off. It was then time to head in. My dad and my total for day 1 was 21 cod and haddock we had 6 cod and 15 nice haddock. My dad had the 2nd largest cod of the day at 13.5lbs.

Day 2 fishing started out a little slow the 1st spot so Phil went over to that haddock spot and I got a nice haddock followed by my dad. My dad got 3 other ones at this spot and I dropped 3 other haddock on the way up. Phil moves again and we do a drift and cod and redfish start coming in. I hooked up to my 1st keeper red on the jig right after my dad boated one on bait. I got hung on bottom and was able to pop it out and I had reeled the jig up a little and stopped for something and while my jig was floating in the water it came to life so I bring it in another red this one was a little bigger. So we move to the haddock spot again in hopes of them turning on. I went over to bait and all I got was a keeper cod and tons of short cod and the stern was bailing the haddock. and the current had lines screaming to the stern so it was a little hard to catch on the side. Soon things heated up in the pulpit with jigging cod so I went up there and started catching cod pretty well. It was a fish a cast for the most part with mostly keepers with some shorts thrown in. I thought I hooked into a really good fish but turns out to be a double keeper which I don't mind either. As I moved to the pulpit the haddock bite turned on on the side but I decided to stick with the cod catching my limit on cod. The pool fish a 20lb cod was caught right next to me. We hauled anchor and drifted the spot where I got another haddock. Some nice pollock came in up to 15lbs and another big cod came in that wasn't in the pool that went 23lbs. Weather was great and even had a whale show, but alas it was time to head in. Our total for the trip was 30keepers, 12 cod 3 redfish and 15 haddock. Trip was a blast. Can't wait to get back up there June 6th will come soon I hope.
