Fluking Cuttyhunk/Quicks 7-27-10

Headed down the islands today to try some deep holes in search of a doormat. The day started slow, good drift, just couldn't find the one. Ended up 3nm west of Quicks with the rest of the fleet in 50'-60' of water. Bailed the fluke however most where just shy at 18". I did manage 5 keepers to 20"-24" but had to work for them. Great day on the water, FAC out there this morning. Headed back to Falmouth at noon.

Went blue crabbing the other night, the rivers in Falmouth/Mashpee are loaded with them. Gonna whip up some Fluke stuffed with a blue crab stufffing drizzeled with lobsters newburg on top tomorrow night.

Yes Rich(Ja-Hootie) your invited!

I was using tom cats glow squid rigs. with fresh squid. Although, I had a third rod on the bottom in the rod holder. It had a glow teaser and a spin and glow on it. That rod and rig caught 3 of the bigger fish and it was catching smaller ones as well. 12 oz. bank sinker

Nice job!!

I worked in the morning and went out around 3 only to be greated by 15 mph winds from the SW against an outgoing tide, not good. Couldn't fish with the kids, too rough. Ended up going over to Oaks Bluff and bail the scup to save the day. On the ride in we should have had our bathing suits on, we were taking spray over the t-top. The kids loved it but I'm getting to old for this stuff, time to get a bigger boat.

The kids don't like eating off the bone so I fillet the little bastards. I've tried just about everyway to cook them and its all good.

Today I'm going to marinate the fillets in Barbecue sauce for a couple of hours and then cook them on foil on the grill. I haven't tried this yet on scup but its my favorite way to eat bluefish. I just add a little butter or margarine to the foil to keep the fish from sticking and if you baste the fillets with additional sauce while cooking they'll taste like ribs. BTW we had bluefish cooked this way this week and it went faster than the striper.
