Frances Fleet Fluke Fishing

Frances Fleet 6/19-6/20

Sorry for the late report was busy yesterday. My dad, Eben and his daughter Jenna went out with the Frances Fleet for two days. Thursday we went on the 8 O'clock boat as there was no 7am boat. Captain Mike took us over to where the 7am boat fishes. I was set up with a HI LO spro rig with a 1/2oz blue shad on top and a 1/2oz bunker on the bottom and a 4oz sinker below that. Jigging the fluke preferred was to not really move the sinker off the bottom but lifting your rod to just before the sinker leaves the bottom and lowering it quickly. The fluke were not very aggressive in their attacking the jigs as they were just laying on them and one would get the impression they were stuck on the bottom until they lifted the rod and it came to life. My dad was using the same rig the only difference was his top spro was a 1/4oz white one and Eben was also using the same rig except his high spro was a 1/2oz magic bus. Jenna was using one with a white top spro and a bottom pink spro both 1/2oz. My dad got 6 keepers up to 5 pounds Eben got his limit up to 5 pounds and lost a potential pool fish on the surface due to being in a tangle with another angler who insisted the fish was his and wouldn't slack up any so final result fish is back on the bottom. Jenna had 3 keepers and I got 15shorts all were pretty much falling 1/2 to a 1/4 inch short of the 20inch size limit. The 1st part of the day was slow due to no drift then Mike made a move and the wind kicked up a little and the bite was on for the day

Friday we fished the 7am boat and this time I was the 1st to score with a fluke and it was my 1st keeper for the 08 fluke season. My rig was a little different today I had a 1/2oz green shad on top and 1/2oz blue shad on the bottom, my 2 favorite spros. A couple minutes later I got another keeper in the 4 pound range. Captain Rich repositioned on the drift and i hooked up into a really nice fish and after a couple seconds it was gone and my bottom spro was completely bare that fish annihilated it. So i rebait and drop down again and about 10minutes later it happened again, boy do I suck. Thats right the count is up to 2 lost nice sized fish a couple seconds after hook up. So we move around some more as the bite slowed up a little and the drift kicked up a little to need a 6oz weight. I got another nice keeper around 5 pounds. I'm jigging away and hook up into a nice fish again this time its on a little longer giving good head shakes and pulling some drag and away it goes. Third time that happened in the day. I managed for the day 3 keepers and 10 shorts, My dad had 4 keepers and Eben had his limit again Jenna didn't get any keepers today. It was a nice 2 days on the water. I was rather disappointed in my performance 2 days of fishing and only 3 keepers, I need to step my game up. Unfortunately I will not be able to go this coming week as I have graduation but I hope to be out the following week with better results.

Ever try a trailer hook? Use a rubber band to hold the eye of a second hook on the bend of the spro.

See you onboard soon.
