Helen H 4/10-4/11 My dad, Eben, Cory and I went up on the Helen H two day trip. Weather was great. We were fishing by 6am when some fish started to come in. I got one keeper on the first drift. Second drift produced a lot of shorts 22-23 inches. The next couple drifts were the same. I did get a nice haddock on the jig as well, my only one of the trip. So slack tide rolls around at like 10 I think, and I have 3 cod and a haddock, Eben has 2 cod my dad has 2 and Cory has 2 cod, Things are pretty slow and Eben tries sticking a piece of clam on his teaser and drops down, a couple bounces of the jig and he is hooked up. The fish is looking pretty good as the pole was bent over pretty good. Then the guessing game came into play. So my dad says maybe its a nice haddock, Cory guesses a doggy and I say wolfy and up appears on the surface a good sized wolffish. It is the biggest one Eben has ever got was 16-17 pounds and was 36inches long and had a really good set of teeth on it. This is one of the bigger fish caught on the boat, there was a nice sized cod caught a little earlier. SO things are slow for a bit with a short and a keeper here or there when Joe moves to "The Spot". This spot was a fish a cast mix of keepers and shorts and a few haddock in the mix. Cory and I had moved up to the bow and were catching pretty well. My dad and Eben were putting on a pretty good show in the stern as well. When I came back to the stern to put some fish in the box I found Eben's special catch of the day, it was like a 20lb rock. This spot held up for a few hours until dark set in and we anchored. My total for day one was 9 cod and a haddock. Cory had 7 cod and 3 Haddock. I'm not sure exactly what My dad and Eben's total was because I kept hearing "I got 3" from my Dad and "I got 2" from Eben. Day two I awoke to the sounds of jigs smashing on deck so I quick jump out of my bunk and get up to the bow and get a keeper when I go to bring it back to our cooler Eben asks me to watch his pole while he gets a coffee. As soon as I puck it up and get a bounce on the jig I had another keeper. Soon we haul anchor and begin drifting and things slow down a lot. So Joe makes a few moves where some shorts were taken. Slack tide again and it was pretty dead. Finally Joe makes a move and fish start coming in again shorts and keepers, a lot of shorts. Cory gets 2 keepers here and I get another. The total for the 4 of us was 11or 12 for day two. Also come to find out Eben's big Wolf took the pool. Capt and Crew worked hard but the fish just didn't want to play along. The weather was great for the two DAYS like a pond but at night was a little different. Vic, it was great meeting you. Hope the fishing picks up soon.
