Took a trip down to the FF today with Ja-Hootie. when we boarded the boat at 3am in the temp was 12 with a nice breeze to go with it. Probably about 30 on board today which at least gave us some room on the rail. arrived on the hump at 630 and found the Viking,Rosie,Celtic Pride and a couple others already there. cpt. mike threw the hook and down they went. started with a lav jig and teaser and so did most others. I believe the only fish to come over the rail was 1 keeper taken by chris conkal. after staying there for a while with nothing coming over cpt. mike pulled the hook and hit a few more spots. still it seemed very slow with just a few cod coming over along with a few ling, and some pout. the third drop seemed promising as i was able to at least get a short and ja-hootie put a keeper in the box. that was it for us nothing but dogfish and 2 more short cod for the rest of the day. nobody on board seemed to really be catching. Probably a total of 30 keepers brought on board today. extremely cold temps. the pool winner came on the last drop of the day and the fish looked to be around 15lbs. Very tough day out there but cpt. Mike was working his ass off to get us on fish. Just didn't happen but that's fishing. high hook probably had 3 or 4 cod with the majority of the guys coming home empty handed. On a good note though the guys on board were all good company and we maid the most out of it. Real core group of guys whom hardly left the rail for a minute despite the frigid temps and lack of fish. fun day and can't wait to get out again soon.

The post on their site about limiting out was put up Monday morning about the trips over the weekend.

Went fishing on the Frances Fleet yesterday. There was a light crowd maybe 25 people. We made it to the grounds at 6:30. A few ling came up on the first spot. Capt. Mike moved the boat a little and I was able to boat the 1st keeper of the trip. We made a little adjustments here and there getting a bit of cod to come up. Then Mike mad a move. We were on a ling spot but the dogs took that over so Mike made another move and decided to drift. Drifting was the ticket. I landed 2 more keeper cod one in the teens. Most of our keepers got caught here on this spot drifting. I also got 5 shorts here. It was a tough day fishing you really had to work hard to get what you caught. I wound up with 3n keepers Cory had 1 cod and 2 ling, Kyle had a cod he got in between working and Eben was unfortunate and didn't get any cod. It was tough fishing but wasn't due to lack of effort by the Captain, fish didn't want to cooperate with our plans.

I also received a phone call from their office about a special trip on Thursday it will be 3am-3pm. I plan on going hope to see some of you out there

If you read the Frances report closely, it's a brief synopsis of the WEEKEND as a whole. I can't speak for Sunday, but when I went out Saturday, there were a handful of guys who limited out. I noticed on Saturday, The Viking mate was smashing skimmer clam shells in the bow and chumming them, something I know Capt. Mike does, but since the bite is on the hardware, I don't think he's tried it yet this year (?). It could be the chumming that the Viking is doing that's bringing them in and keeping them there, I don't know. I know in the past when Mike chummed them up, it was a bail job. I saw a weather report calling for 45 degrees on Friday. May head out Saturday again if the weather holds. Hey Chris, hold that cod closer to the camera and it'll look like a 50 pounder ;O) Just bustin' you eggies! Nice job. What were you using for a jig? Wish I could get out on that 3 AM trip on Thursday. 5 Knot wind from SW and 1 foot seas… Can't get much better than that in January!

All my fish came on the Iron. One was on a 9oz Norwegian the other 2 were on a 12oz lav. The bigger fish fell victim to a lav.
