RELENTLESS report 4/13 w/ pics

Fished today for our 1st trip of 2008

bite was very good on jigs ontop of the bank to the EAST in about 120'
lots of keeper and throwback cod. many doubles. biggest of the day was about 10lbs.Almost non stop for about 2 hours then slowed down.
after slack we moved out into 150-170' ft to try for some haddock and found a nice mix of cod and hadd.

we were able to tag about 15 short cod but had many more shorts.

all in all good first trip . we did fish bait but jigs did better.

back at it in a.m

Thanks for the report Curt. Hope to be there Tues. or Wed.

How was the water temp? Did you mark bait? Whales feeding on the bank?

Good report Curt !
We were out there also.
Great day to be on the water
Fishing was steady , lots of rat shorts , a decent number of cod to fillet, but nothing big caught for the day.
still a great day to be on the water !
Radio was pretty quiet !

Nice report Curt. I had to shakedown some mechanical trouble so I went out today and fished inshore from GH to the Gurnet and hit all the known haunts. Nothing at all.

Water temp about 5-6 miles out was 42.

There were MANY whales and dolphins with a few miles of shore so I was hopeful there was bait and cod

NADA

Right Whales

Mike,

I believe those are the large aggragation of Right whales around. Remember, they are easy to identify as they have no dorsal, are endangered and you are required to stay 500 yards away and transit at 10 knots or less when they are in area. Just be carefull and you will not have a roblem. I hope you got your problems straightened out.

Good Luck,

Dave

Thanks Dave,

I never got close, just noticed them in the distance. They would flash a tail and be gone. I wondered if they were rights. One had a good chunk taken out of a tail.. Not sure if you can identify them by that.

Most were around the orange CG mooring buoy.

Problems are solved, I think. Can't wait to get back on the bank!!

Boy this would be a tough one since there were everywhere from #6 to the Gurnet. Any boat leaving GH would be crossing paths. That means people should keep it under 10 until they are about 6-8miles out.. I ran a line from #6 to the CG mooring buoy and continued SE even with the Gurnet. They were both inshore to me and off shore to me.. Like I said we never got close, but they were popping up all over the place

Good heads up becasue they are DEFINITELY out there..

We left out of Plymouth harbor (Brewers) and headed out the Gurnet to the bank.
We saw them all day.
They were just cruising very slowly.
