Saturday, June 2nd Well I guess all good things must come to an end. Last week we were doing excellent catching good sized market cod off of an area of Stellwagen Bank known as the mussels. Therr were plenty of recreational anglers along with charter boats with most recording decent catches and plenty of action. This area reopened to commercial fishing and made dropping a jig in the area challenging. On Saturday Relentless had on board Stewart Duncun from CT who has fished with us before and was looking forward to catching some decent cod and haddock. Unfortunately the fishing was horrific and the worst day I have had in years. It was not due to a lack of effort by myself or the anglers aboard who worked their ass off trying to hook fish both on jig and bait. On the way out the bank was loaded with bluefish, very large bluefish chasing sand eels, wehre we trolled rubber shad and landed a few to put our first blues of the year on board the RELENTLESS. ![]() During the day, Stew landed a very large wolf fish using clams as bait. ![]() Other anglers landed a few good sized market codfish fo take home for dinner. ![]() Stew and his party were great to have aboard and I honestly believe knew how hard we were trying to put fish in the coolers. I tried like crazy and the numbers were very low and I appreciated them understanding. While driving home, I was wondering where I would head to Sunday when another repeat customer was coming aboard. Sunday, June 3rd Mark Dellert who fished aboard RELENTLESS with his friends from CT and MA were on board on Sunday, June 3rd. Departing the dock early we headed east of Stellwagen Bank for a day of cod and haddock fishing. Once we arrived at a piece of bottom we thought might produce, the guys dropped the jigs and clams and were met by bent poles right away. Once they reeled in you could see the siver sided haddock and a nice wolf fish come over the rail. Throughout the day and not a single move this group managed to land plenty of large haddock, some cod and a nice wolffish. At the end of the day, they stated they inted to book a combination groundfishing and school tuna trip this August. I wish we had the same type of fishing the day before for Stewart and his party but every day is different on the ocean. All we can do is to keep moving until we find the quanity and quality of fish we are targeting. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once again we have available dates for shared charters on Friday, June 8th and we want to also fill Sunday, June 10th. If you are interested in coming aboartd for either a private or shared charter please give us a call or send us an e-mail while the fishing is still excellent. Respectfully, Captain Dave Waldrip www.relentlesscharters.com | ||
