Stellwagen Bank Friday May 30 | |
Fished the NW corner of Stellwagen on Friday with Captain Mike of Tail Rope Charters. I fished with two friends Paul (orion23) & Dave (cruise control). For most of the day the fish seemed to have lock jaw. We did catch some nice cod ranging from 6 - 12 pounds, but overall it was slow compared to other trips we have made. All of our fish came on jigs in water approx. 110 - 125 feet. All the cod had full bellies of sand eels. We did soak a few clams but only managed to catch doggies. Captain Mike did a great job looking and finding bait with fish mixed in, but overall the huge quantities of bait from weeks earlier seemed to have moved. Overall we caught 11 keeper cod and 1 haddock with a bunch of undersized (22 – 23 inch) small cod that we threw back. I would highly recommend Captain Mike of Tail Rope Charters; he knows the bank well and does not hesitate to burn some fuel to get you on the fish.
