Fished Stellwagon yesterday. Seas 2-3 feet in the AM then 1 foot later in the day. Water 51 degrees. Winds NW in the AM then shifted to the S in the afternoon. Started in the middle bank area. Still loads of shorts (22-23") cod. Worked a good part of the day but just couldn't get those keepers. Fish were stacked up 10' deep with more fish at 25' off the bottom. Jigged all different place in the water column......still only shorts. Gave up on that and headed East, and managed a small box of Haddock to end the day. All-n-All a great day on the water. Wish we could have found some keeper cod. Man I can't believe the shorts!!! Fished jigs w/white & pink grub teasers. Haddock were all packed solid with sand eels. Side note: Around the L's saw a school of something come to the surface and start busting/smashing bait. Don't know if it was Bass or what it was but it was incredible.

| Thanks for the report and it still looks like the Bank is loaded with lots of shorts and a few barely keepers. On our next trip we may start in deeper water and start with bait to get some haddock if only small cod are around. There was a report this week that a charter boat out of Gloucester fished Tillies and got some bigger cod including a 45 lb'er and C&R the fish. We have fished Tillies before and done well in 230-270 ft. and if fishing is slow we can run south to the NWC for the pick at the shorts for some 24 in. plus fish. Looks like fishing the Bank is still a struggle for keepers until some bigger fish move in. Again thanks for the report. | ||

We jumped out at 11:00, ran to tillies due to the reports of all the shorts on Stellwagen. Fished deeper (220-300), but ran into the shorts there also, and not the haddock we were looking for. Ended up with 4 keeper cod out of a legit 30-40 shorts, one keeper haddock, 6 beautiful cusk. We could have caught a box of mackeral if we wanted, they were thick hitting both the flies and vike-jigs. jigs, clams and Mackeral were the bait. Fish were spitting up 8 inch sandeels, herring and chomping big mackeral. 1 whale, and a bunch of gannets nailing mackeral. first fish dinner of the season tasted great | ||

I don't know if the big ones are there, and you can't get to them because of all the little ones or what the deal is....... Relentless was out, how did you guys do Capt. Dave or Capt. Curt? At the GH launch the reports were all the same from the people I spoke with.......

| Everyone I talk to has the same tale to tell on Stellwagen. I hit a 25'lber back on the 3rd and expected to hear good reports from then on, but I swear I haven't heard of anything close to that since. Heard of a handful over the last few weeks in the teens but man the fuel burn doesn't seem worth it. The place is crawling with little ones, and I mean some really little ones. We're not talking 22" or 23" near legals, we are talking 12"-15" fish, even in deeper water east. What gives? M | ||

Capt John B took out a charter on Relentless on Wed.I did not get a full report but I know they had alot of short codfish also and no haddock at all.I think they were fishing closer to the middle. I am going crazy another weekend of $hit weather. | ||

| Has anyone been trying the dumping grounds on the north west of the bank? I know in years past that held some bigger fish than the bank. If anyone has tried please let me know. Thanks Armand | ||

| Armand, funny you mention that, that was gonna be our last stop but we found the Haddock to save the day so we fished them. I was also thinking some of the "mid way" grounds around the old "H" buoy. We've had days in years past where we got our pick of fish without making the run to the bank.
