Well we left the dock at 6:30 am and topped off the tank over at Mystic marine fuel. We headed out passed Deer Island and was greated by a stiff 10 to 15 knot east wind that was stacking 3 to 4 footers at the entrance to the harbor. At this point I really got to appreciate having a larger boat than the old 20 footer. In the old boat I would be calling it a day and heading back to the dock. We made between 18 and 22 knots to the north west corner of Stellwagon. Upon arival I saw a small fleet of recreational boats and a couple head boats and figured I was in the right area. It was slow pickins all day. You had to fight through about 10 shorts before you got rewarded with a keeper cod or haddock. Had a some help from Charlie Wade who was aboard an awsome looking 35' Henriques ( Sweet Dream III). Capt. Bruce put us on some larger fish towards the end of the day. Total tally for the day was 5 nice cod and 3 haddock. Fish were all taken on 10 and 12 ounce butterfly jigs. Colors were glow, yellow, and pink. Depths were around 120 feet right on the edge of the bank. All fish were stuffed with BIG 6"+ sandeels. __________________

| I headed out of Gloucester on a friends 24' Dusky yesterday. Figured we could hit the NWC pretty easily. It's a good heavy seas boat. About 1 mile out of Gloucester we were into 3-5 and it was clear there was nothing but a miserable ride out there so we opted for local cod off southern Tillies. The bite was consistent all day long but They were mostly shorts. Took 3 home. Glad we didn't burn the fuel to the bank for what I am hearing was similar production. Talked to several boats at the dock that made it to the bank and it was the same story.. Seems to me the cod are moving up onto the bank pretty late this year and the big ones are noticeably missing. I had a 25lber back on the 2nd and haven't heard of anything much over that and not in any numbers.. M | ||
