Walsh's report 1/26/08

Got out yesterday with a very light crowd aboard the American Classic. Capt. steamed to the same areas off Truro/Wildcat south of P-Town, and the codfish were there, although not in the concentrated numbers we saw last March.

I used a 17.5 ounce Norewgian, as the depth and current required it, until later in the day when I switched to a 14 lav. My color of choice was white and blue teasers, and they accounted for a good number of the fish I caught. My biggest went 10 pounds, pool winnwer was a nice fat 20 pounder. Had to work very hard to get the fish, but I ended the day with around 15 cod, with a few throwbacks, and 3 rather large cusk. A very nice day on the water, a few rollers and cold in morning, but mild and windless for the second half of the day. Bite died early, around 1 it was done altogether, and Jimmy steamed home a touch early to get us back in around 4:30.

Sound like fun.

Sounds like you'll be eating some nice fresh fish. The best I can do is get some hardwater fishing in. Although that has been fun I can't wait for the spring to get here. I may have to look into a charter or a head boat before the spring gets here. I'm sure cabin fever is starting to set in for the rest of the crew.

Awesome job. Capt. Jim is a great guy to fish with. I sailed with him a few years back in March in ice and snow we didn't find the fish until about 3:30 40 miles out. He kept us on them to fill our coolers and bought us back 3 hours late. Talk about dedicated. I really appreciate a captain like that. He is top notch in my book.
