Question for Jim I had owned John Deere 510 backhoe, and kept it together with 230 amp Lincoln stick AC welder (buzz box). Now I have a bunch of clam bull rakes in various states of repair. Not exactly sure what I want do just yet (likely cut them down somewhat in size since a 30 inch bull is now a bit too much for me,) but my stick welder is useless in trying to weld the thin high carbon steel teeth on. Would one of those $150 (made in China) flux core wire welders be good enough to wire these clam baskets together or would I just be wasting my money? If I have to go to MIG and gas, it would probably be cheaper just to purchase a new rake head.

thats funny. we get cars towed in that are half taken apart with twelve dunkin donut cups full of bolts in the trunk, because thier buddy could fix it cheaper when they get it apart and realize they have no idea what the hell they are doing, and also come to the conclusion that they will never get it back together, they tow it to the dealer, and it costs them 3 times what it would have ![]()

When I first met Jim I said oh I've been welding for 30 years . He said go ahead give it a try .So the helmet went on and the sparks were flyin and my first tig weld job looked not better than those first pictures.. Over the past 3 years tryin to weld on occasion down there I've gotten to the point where I can make a bead but Its much better to keep my trap shut and let Jim or Manuel weld it . ![]()
