| It just sold - a guy over at classicmako went & looked at it, and bought it on the spot. It was a '79 - same family since new, lightly used summer boat - repowered w/ outdrive in '91. Complete w/ trailer, ready to roll, sounds like the guy got a screaming deal... ![]() If i didn't already have mine, i would have been after that one...

![]() Remember, your HULL (& tank) is all NEW ![]() All you have to do (someday) is slap a new set of E-Tec's on there and you're good to go! ![]() That '79, with the '91 power..........it will soon have power issues.......if it doesn't already.......and then it will be.......transom core at the very least (can't plug and then recore a new outdrive hole in wet wood), then punky stringers at the stern (then how far forward do you chase them?)......and then...oh, how is the floor now?.....hmmmmm mights as well go and replace that.....oh yeh then there's that old aluminum fuel tank with the huge pits in it......might as well go and replace all that......wanna go any further? What would you rather do? Go thru all of the above AND a repower? Or slap a couple E-tecs on yours someday and be done? Yeh, you did good with Moxie ![]()

| Absolutely, Eric - no regrets on Moxie for sure. She has done me great over the past 3 seasons so far. The only negative are the engines being a bit thirsty, but they (knock on wood) fire up everytime. Given that I barely seem to have time to hose her down every once & a while, there is no way I could take on a project boat. Plus I like already having t-top and outboards. A set of etec's would be great, but I'm leaning more towards a pair of Opti 200/225's these days - if all goes well, maybe in 2 yrs...

| Craig, What engines are those? How does the boat handle with the outboards? I've never been on a 233 with outboards, mine has twin inline 6 mercs which run great. Ive always been curious about a repower performance/ economy/ handling wise. The space on the deck would certainly be a welcome addition as would some fish boxes! Thx Steve | ||

| Steve, I have twin '89 Evinrude 120's, and I'm very happy w/ how the boat handles w/ twins on a bracket. That said, i have only been on a 233F w/ an IO once, and it was not very rough. If I had to guess, I would say there was slightly less bow raise on getting to plane w/ the IO, but I couldn't tell you much else on the difference. However, if I trim the engines in, I have very little bow raise. I also imagine you can run an IO boat at a slower speed than mine while staying in a plane. I fall off right around the lows 20's (w/out using trim tabs). I'd say mine is the minimal power you would want for OB's. At 3700rpm, I cruise at 27mph, and burn 18 gph. At 4k rpm, I see 30mph, and 20gph. I top out right at 40mph, light. If I went to twin 150's, I would be in the mid-30's cruise, and low 50's for wot. Fuel burn would obviously depend on the type of engine, but w/ modern dfi or 4S's, I bet you would see close to 2.5mpg at cruise. I like the idea of over-powering w/ a pair of 200/225 opti's, b/c I think I would come close to the fuel efficiency at the same speed (lower rpm), but would also stay north of 2mpg up over 40mph. For a repower, I think you could run anything from a single 250, upto twin 200/225's (under 500lbs each). I would actually be a little concerned a single 250 might be on the light side, as I have seen some of these hulls where the outer chine is above water. They are pretty efficient w/ a single this way, but my concern would be a tendency to roll more in a drift. That, and I just like twins. It is really nice having the open space at the transom. i haven't put fish boxes in mine yet, but plan to one day. I have a big bildge space under-deck where the engine used to be, and trying to figure out what to do w/ some of it. Do you have a CC or cuddy? I have always thought that these hulls work well for a bracket conversion b/c they can handle the redistribution of weight well. i figure if they can handle twin IO's at the transom, then twin OB's on a bracket (which provides some offset flotation) are not a problem.
