Talking Adding to the spread...

recent additions to the spread...no, unfortunately they're not all mine, two are mine, the rest are for friends (who will be fishing on my boat ).

stumbled on a closeout/blemish deal on these avet pro exw 4/02 reels. i was planning on adding a couple tiagra 30wlrs, but i got these at basically 1/2 the cost. used ubettcha13's last year and was impressed. i'm going to fill them with 500yards of 80lb braid (haven't decided which braid yet) w/a 150 yard topshot of 80lb hi vis mono. they will be do-it-all offshore reels. you can get 22lbs of strike/35lbs full drag with freespool right out of the box. and they're made in USA. if you get a chance to get some of the avet blems, i recommend it as you have to study these things to find anything close to a blemish.

Those are sick reels. My preferred brand, granted, I only have 1 at this point, but more are coming (for my inshore use)

i should clarify...with the discount, these reels are slightly more than 1/2 the cost of the shimanos, but no, i didn't get 1/2 off the regular price of the avets.

possum, and anyone else looking for avets, check ebay, username 'e-tackle' for the blemish reels before you buy. he seemed like a good guy on the phone and he's local (mass). he runs a blackfin and told me he has something like 22 avets (!), most of them blemish reels. one of the high points of running a tackle business i guess.

Chainsaw - My buddy and I have been putting EX4/02's to the tuna test for the past 2 years ... they are really sweet reels and will bring the fish to the boat. Don't forget to pull them apart once a year and give them a good lube/cleaning and they'll outlast you. Enjoy, they are awesome. Bob

p.s. - I built a storage rack for 8 rods/reels to keep them in and use while running offshore. I'll try to pull some pictures together today and share that project.

Bob is right on the money! These reels are awsome. We had six 100# big eye hooked up all at once and we put five of them on the deck in less than 30 min. The drag is smooth and when ya need to put the heat on, its there!
