Whats the advantage of hollow core? Does it float? Sounds like that would be counter productive. I am not familiar with that stuff.

the #1 advantage is that it is splice-able via the 'finger trap' method. it is said this is much stronger than a knot and of course you don't have to worry about a big knot going through your guides cleanly. there is also said to be an advantage in how the line lays on the spool...it flattens out to a degree and packs on tighter. again though, i have never used it and i'm not the right person to give pros & cons, this is just my understanding from 20,000 feet. the canyonrunner seminar features an 'expert' on the subject of fishing braid and particularly hollow core (from what i understand this is all he uses and many consider him to be the most knowledgable)...i think i am going to attend, so hopefully i will learn something.

Berkley has a hollow braid in 80# 500 yd spool for the 65$ at charkbait They claim it looks like a terrific product (They are salesman after all) but I have not seen or heard any feedback yet JB hollow would be 134$ for 600 yd spools btw I would look into that as berkley makes good to outstanding products depending on the price point they are trying to hit

Braid

I love the sensitivity of braid, but have always had problems with fraying. I've given up again and gone back to mono after several random breakoffs with 80# PP last year.

MF - its probably your knots not the braid that is failing. What are you using for a terminal connection. The standard improved clinch does NOT work in braid.
A palomar is a must.

Holow core seems to be the rage among offshore guys becuase of it being splicable and the amount you can pack on the reel becuase it is hollow. You can make almost a seamless transition. When I just spooled my alutecnos I used 130 Jerry Brown hollow core and packed on over 800 yards plus a 150 topshot of 100 monomi. It doesnt fray as much as braid and it isnt as sharp at all.
