| Hi, FYI if someone is interested. That is Gudebrod HTA pearl metallic thread as the underwraps. Over a black/graphite blank it normally turns a shade of gray. After masking off the wraps I scuff up the area and clean with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Then the area gets coated with 2 coats of Rust-oleum Painters Touch Flat White latex paint. *** any flat white will do. Let dry overnight. White area gets coated with Flex Coat color sealer preserver. This places a hard coating over the white paint so that when the pull thru loop is pulled under the wrap the white paint won't come off. Then I wrap white nylon or metallic thread as the underwrap. Capt Neil

| That's a sweet color combo. How does it look in the golfcart rod holder Jim? I'll bet it looks great. Bob | ||

| Capt Neil - Do you apply the paint while the rod is rotating to keep it even? Or is the coat thin enough to resist sagging? I may have to try that next time I do a rod with a dark blank. Nice work! | ||

| Bryan A. Good morning. Yes I rotate the rod in the lathe. I hold the brush to the rod and then move it from one end of the wrap to the other end. Let's say that is a north/south operation. With the lathe not moving I run the brush across the wrap area, east/west operation, to feather out the paint and not have any peaks and valleys. Then I hand rotate the blank an 1/8 of a turn and go east/west again. I repeat this till I get back to the starting point. You will get the whitest white and it looks sharp. I have found that is you do this with other light colors find a flat paint the matches the thread as close as possible, maybe even a bit lighter in color. Another way is to first apply a coat of finish to the wrap area. When I mix the finish I add white pigment I get from an auto body friend. This is a great way to change the color of a blank. Capt Neil
