Electric Reel

Hi Guys!

I am brand new to this forum, so forgive me if I am in the wrong section. I am thinking of purchasing an electric reel to help out when I go Tile fishing. I know nothing about them, except they can be expensive. I am looking on advice on a quality reel that won't break the bank.

Thanks,
JC

Hi JC, and WELCOME TO NBS

First I need to know, do you want a dedicated reel, or do you have a reel you would like to add power asisst to, big difference?

Also, please check out this thread after you answer: http://www.nbssportfishing.com/vBfor...charters-6647/

I guess I can go either way. I have a Penn Senator 4/0 reel that is not being used. Could that be used with a motor? Do I need a special rod for the electric setup???

Thanks,
JC

I went to the salt water expo and really liked the Daiwa megatwin electric reel. Any comments on it?

I was going to suggest that reel to you, I use Diawa Sealine reels and rods on all my inshore charters. Their Dendoh series is top notch.

If you have the money go for it!! The elctra mate series for adding power asisst to your Penn is a good brand, but why spend that kind of money when you could have the Diawa for negligible difference considering all the functions and the new reel without having toi tie up an older penn?

THe Kristal reels are dynamite too, but I have no experience with the smaller versions, only used on down south for some extreme deep dropping...
