No prob Alloy!

As a side note, some like to troll with plain braid, leaving you having to weigh down your tube with a huge egg sinker or other type of weight........

I prefer to keep the tube "slim" and with the least amount of exposed hardware possible, and let the lead line pull it down. No need to keep changing weights to adjust LOL, just drop another color out or pull another color in, etc etc.

BTW, I also have tubes of "different weights".......not that I pay attention to that, since it's weight makes no real difference using lead line, but we've come up with a couple different ways to rig internally, which resulted in slightly different weights.

What rods are you guys using? Reel Crazy metioned Ugly Stick Tiger so I assume something with a light tip?

Never played with leadcore before but have used wire alot. With those rods we always fished something of a slow action noodle type rod. The tigers are generally a fast action, light tip. Yes?

What the consesus on rods with leadcore?

I've been using Penn Sabres (discontinued but probably still a couple around) with Aftco Roller Tips. I believe, if memory serves me right, they're 6'-6", 15-40#? Something like that.....I'll check if I can get a chance.

I love the action on them, though they are not a REAL light tip. I wouldn't use a meat rod, but also wouldn't go too light either. Personally.

Bryan

I use the lead core mostly for chunking. so I do like to use a light tip, fast action rod. I had alot of missed fish with the stiffer rods for some reason.
The ugly stick tigers i use are 30-60 pound.
this season I tried a new setup recommended by fishermans paradise.
it is a diawa sealine rod. Im very happy with it.
I can get you the model # if you are interested

What's the smallest reel that will hold a spool of 45# lead core?

My experience is all wire, but with the kids getting older and independent......LOL........wire is not the thing to hand them.

I'm thinking lead core would be easier to pay out and fish with.......

Depends how many colors you want on the reel. I believe I got 6 on a Penn 320 and 321 and that was pushing it. If 4 is what you need to get down in depths you fish, that'll work and fill with some backing under it.

I'm thinking the same thing. I have that penn 309 which isn't huge. I think it holds like 350yds of 30#. I would like some backing but don't want to run out of room. Any idea is I could fit some backing with the penn 309. I have 30# spider wire on there now. It is like 8lb test diameter. I can fit a ton of that on there. How can I tell if I can put the backing on there with the 100yds of 45# lead core.

Bob&Mag,

Are you running the lead core through the levelwind, or did you remove it? How does it work out levelwinding lead core?

I did run it through the level wind but if you've got a reel without it, would be better. Once a fish is on we have had it pile up under pressure and had to turn to hand Linin' the bass in LOL.
A side note we put away our wire, then our leadcore and troll using pp braid with a 4oz drail and can hit bottom at 42'. Much easier but hand linin' ain't gonna happen with braid ;)
