New vs old avet reel

Does anyone know what the difference is between the old (pre 2007) Avet SX reel and the new one? Price is 179 old version and 200 for the new version?
Also best price for left hand model. Most websites have them listed but don't say too much about them.

Thanks.

Bob,

I don't think there was a redesign or anything, just a pricing increase, which has been happeing about every 2 years on the AVETs.

When I bought my AVET MX, left handed, the price was the same as the standard reel.

Check out Charkbait.com, specifically, their left handed selection @ Avet Reels from CharkBait!

I'll be picking up another SX this year as well, for the wife (likely in the purple series), as I use an SX for fluke/blackfish/striper fishing, and it is the best reel I have ever had for that purpose.

There really isn't any discount market for AVETs, that I have ever seen.

Thanks Brad. I noticed the older ads showed 5:1 and newer show I think it was 5.3:1 but not positive. Someone had leftovers for 149 (old model it says but no description) that's what got me curious. Hey tell your wife I found the sx on one site in "pink".
Glad to hear it's a good reel. I'm hoping to use it for what you mention, mostly fluke/tog/bass.
Thanks for the info.

What's new with Avet?

The guys and gals at Avet don't sleep much, they just keep thinking...creatively. There are a few new things happening, some new gear already here, and a couple changes coming down the pike. First off, the new HX's are here. Secondly, the popular and diminutive SX is going through a revision. The new model will has a 5.3:1 gear ratio and have a silent crank, like their SX 2 speed and newer JX and LX reels. We've received the new reels now, the old one's are all gone. The last bit of Avet news, the MX series has also gone through a refinement this summer. They have the same updates as found on the newer SX reels and are available now (Sept.)

I dealt with e-tackle.com - troll the web. hookup here.

for my SX, and also bought several others for friends. It was before the price increase.

However, he helps you out by offering free spooling of braid, etc, and often will offer free reel covers, etc.

Got my SX for $179, no tax, no shipping, spooled fully with 65# PP (no backer!), with the optional rod clamp, and an avet reel skin

I have used the old and the new and I love them both. Gearing is different in the 5.3. There is less play in the gears and the handle is longer. I am going to get a 5.3 and put it on my bass rod and put the 5.1 on a new tog rod. Have caught tog and bass on the 5.1 with the soft rubber grip, has never been an issue at all.

I may never get this reel. Have it on backorder since the beginning of February. Will be in within a month. It's two months and no reel. Looked on the net tonight for another place to get it and as soon as you put "left-handed" it's like a curse. Out of Stock...None available.... Emailed Charkbait to find out what the deal is there and waiting to here from them.
Will post results and appreciate if anyone knows where I can get the SX model (NEW 5.3:1) in "left hand" version. Would like to use it in a week.
Thanks!

The brand new SX are smoother and quieter than the older ones. I have one from the end of 06 early 07 before they redesigned them again and mine sounds like a coffee grinder compared to the new ones.

Just comparing the two. Love the 5:1 but there is more play in the gears than with the new design. Its all relative, the 5:1 is great and I will be using it for years to come, the new one's gears just feel a little more dialed in.
