OK, fair enough.....

I guess when you grow up fishing commercially on broomsticks with old penns and daiwas.......the same ones forever LOL......

Then you don't tend to notice these extremely subtle differences

I haven't used the Avet SX or even held it in person. I've been thinking of getting one for a while now. This sounds like a great bass/heavy fluking reel. Is that correct? Let me know your thoughts.

Maybe someone will have one at the show this weekend.

Exactly how I intend using it.
Fluke/Tog/Bass now if I can only find one. Everyone is saying none available. So do I wait another month and hope for the best?
Fluke season is very short this year and I've got the rod to put the reel on, collecting dust.
Maybe I'll switch out to "handlines" LOL.

Steve & Bob,

I bought mine (SX) last year from E-Tackle (he'll be at the show) and it came preloaded entirely full with 65# PP at my request. I used it last year mated to a 10-25# Ugly Stick Tiger Lite, 6'-9", for Bass, Fluke, Seabass, Tautog.......LOVED IT! It quickly became my all-around favorite rod, as it was so damned versatile!

Call me crazy, but I plan on using the same SX on my 40-60# Ugly Stick 8'-0" Cod Rod on my trip on Relentless May 4

The guy from E-Tackle said he's used them before, I have to see it for myself, there certainly is a high enough gear ratio, and plenty of PP on it!

BTW, the drag is VERY STRONG, I had it maxed out to somewhere in the low 20# range (I wanted to say 31# but I think it may have been in the 20's lol, it was when I first got it) when I was playing with it LOL.

Hey thanks Eric. Good to know. Good luck on the Cod outing. You gotta let me know how the reel performs. I've got a certificate to boaters world, they have SX listed but I'm not sure if it's the older or new. I'll wait for the show and check them all out.

Last i knew, they (Boater's World) doesnt stock them tho. You would have to order it.

I told them last year (Warwick) they were missing the boat stocking half the chit they stock, and nothing of quality and at comparable price as the crap they had.

The response is they can't stock everything. I told them they should cut back on some of the CHIT and stock some GOOD CHIT! LOL I think the guy really understood, actually.

And for the record, I actually like Boater's World, and get a lot of stuff there. I have been impressed by their fishing selection as a whole, and their prices blow away West. I just had a peeve with the reel selection in stock, for those of us who want a reel quicklike.

I just ordered (minutes ago) a new SX for my wife (in purple, spooled with spectra and the reel skin). These are sick reels, and can be used for damn near anything inshore. Yeah, it was $200, but she'll dig it, and the reels can't be beat.

I got it from CharkBait.com, where I got my blue SX.

I agree, the SX is by far the most inshore versatile reel going! Spooled with braid, you have infinite capacity (inshore, up to "medium offshore" groundfishing).

Mine has the optional reel clamp and neoprene reel cover as well. Easily swapped to almost any rod
