| Old Reels After the post Shakespeare acquires Penn I have to ask. How many here use OLD Reels? I don't know what is but, I just like the old stuff. My favorite reel is an old Peen 704 that was my dads. Its been rebuilt with new drags about 5 times and I still love it. I have several old penns in my boat. A 285 Del Mar and an old 209 all work perfectly. I even have an old Ocean City reel that still kicks. To me the new stuff unless you pay some big bucks just does't cut it. I have pickerd up some nice old penns on Ebay for dirt cheep and love them. What do you think about the old stuff?

| great topic with many opinions ...I will start I would say Im in the other camp, I like new, I like having the best technology in my hands as I feel it gives me the best opportunity to land that BIG fish. Not that old isnt cool becuase it is but like most everything in this world, products evolve. Better balance, better drag, lightweight but able to tackle huge fish. I love offshore fish, if i loose one I want it to be becuase I lost the fish not the tackle. If the old stuff is properly maintained thats great A good analogy is Dom at Coastal Charters has his grandfathers Penn 50's they are so well maintained that I ddnt even know they were old, until I read it today LOL I was down in Venice tuna fishing and we decided to drop for Amberjack, we had been using shimano Tiagra's all day and I was spoiled. Well not for long, he broke out this huge old Penn reel and it was a workout to land the 50# AJ To each there own, great topic, welcome to the board by the way |

| Old Reels All depends on what your fishing for. Fluke fishing, fun but high tech reels are not needed (nice but not needed). Offshore - totally different subject. I have a mix of old and new. Tend to like the new stuff more but for things like fluke and tog the old school tackle is fine (my only major change is I use braid for everything but light, light tackle). Jack |

| I'm with Jack here. My most modern technological change has been one to braid and two using circle hooks in some instances though still not used to the hooks. "DON'T SET THE HOOK" LOL

| Still have and use a Penn 105. It's nothing fancy, infact it's rather crued and sloppy. I guess it's more sentimental. ![]()

| I am a Shimano man through and through, but am proud to have 26 year old Penn 50W 2 speeds that perform(and look) fantastic. They have been lovingly maintained due to sentimental reasons, and its easier now that it is a routine. They take a bit more care and effort to keep them in top shape, but the metal frames make it easy to polish and burnish them to newer looking. Theyare great reels that will catch big fish forever as far as I am concerned.... I pretty much avoid most other Penns like the plague, except for the battlewagon 113H series, which are my go to wire line and heavy charter reels.

| I've got plenty of older stuff.....but will admit I've been gravitating toward the newer too. I like the "old" (80's) Daiwa 900H's I have......and the 704Z's, not sooooo old, but old technology.....(my father still has an old green one with the white drag knob and handle)...... I got rid of my old 9/0 Senators......and will be getting rid of some of my 113's eventually....... Moving into Avets a little, see how I like 'em...so far love my SX. Will always own my 50VSW's....love those reels.
