HA HA HA : I said roller bearing in the roller ??? LOL. Yes I am talking about the roller bearing in the line roller. And yes that is an actual 706z, and it has a roller bearing in the line roller.. . I don't know when they started making them but I bought that one in 1980 , LL Bean Had to give up my first born for it. That thing has reeled in Stripers, Bluefish, Sailfish, Halibut and a number of other species. Still works smoooooth.

I have a couple of Van Stahls from when they first came out. Won the first one at The Marthas Vineyard Striped Bass Derby. It takes a short time to get used to no bail but after a few casts you get used to it. I find that after you cast pull the line in towards the reel seat as your reeling and it will catch the roller bearing every time. theres nothing worse than making a good cast and having the bail close on you and hearing that pop and losing a ten dollar plug.

SWEET!

Well, the 704 is the same reel internally as far as most parts, but the 706 has a slightly larger spool. Not sure about the spool cup.

Well, tomorrow nite and/or Saturday will be my test......

BTW, don't ever get rid of that reel, it's worth a good amount on eBay! LOL

This is what I was figuring on.....seems that it would have no problem catching on it's own, just like if you had a bail hoop

I'll give it a whack......

Well, I used one of these all weekend snagging pogies, and I must say I rather like the simplicity of this setup!

And no more worries of the bail snapping closed (Although I did hear a couple of premature snaps from another reel on board LOL)

Worked very well, and I think I am going to grow to like it

HA HA !! SNAP !!!In the nite. . I got so accustom to that system that when I go back to the bail (like on my ultralite) Every once in a while (usually when I have a NEW Castmaster on) I hear that SNAP !!!!. I Hate when that happens.
