| Rod Eye Repair Never had this happen but the ceramic inner ring on the eye one of my Shimano rods popped out of the metal cage. Didn't break or crack or anything just popped out. What's the best way to repair this? Super glue?

| Funny you say that , my Shimano has a broken eye insert on the tip....... Was casting plugs for blues for sharking a few weeks ago and the line kept snapping.......WTF????? I have already converted my 704's to bailless, so I knew it wasn't that age-old issue......after losing a few plugs (crappy old ones anyway) I finally saw the cracked insert.....it was grabbing the braid and snapping it. Anyway, in your case, if your insert is still good, I would glue it back in place.

| Although you may have to have it replaced, believe it or not, high temp hot melt glue works best. The rings are really held in with glue anyway. The fit in the frame usually is very snug, so it doesn't need a real lot to keep it in place. Sometimes though as the guide manufacturer's dies get old, the hole in the frame for the insert starts to get sloppy and there just isn't a good fit, so it's more likely to pop out. |

| I lost an insert on a guid on one of my st. croix's. Can an insert be purchased to try the above before putting a new guide on, or should I just have a new guide installed? Thanks.

| Alloytoy, the rod tip glue is perfect Bob & Mag, unfortunately you will have to have the guide repaired. The only other thing we could try, if you can measure the opening where the ring goes, I could see if I have an older guide (used, but as long as it isn't cracked, the ring almost always looks new) that we can steal the ring from. |

| Thanks. I may just do that Jim. It's my favorite light spinning rod I use for bucktailing fluke.
