| Rod repair I have 2 St.Croix rods that the wife and I use for fluke & tog fishing that need some work done to. One of the rods is about 10yrs. old and the other is 6 or 7. What I need done is the cork tape removed and replaced with foam grips. I know to do that you have to take the guides off, if they need replacing so be it . My question is, is there anybody close by that can do it? I live in W.Mass., near rt.91. Feel free to shoot me a PM. I know of a couple bait and tackle shops that do rod repair, but I would rather give my money to a guy out to make a few extra bucks. The bait shops get enough of my money during the season. Thanx Rich

| Triple J Hi, Grips and reel seat can be removed and the new components installed from the butt end without removing the guides. You have to find a shop that will do it this way. It is expensive to remove the guides and then rewrap them. For example here on Long Island, NY to remove and replace a guide can cost between $10-20 plus cost of guide. That is for each guide. Not knowing how much you spent for the rods would new rods of the same model be a better way to go? Capt Neil

| Capt. The 10 yr. old St.Croix has the guides starting to pull off, if that makes any sense, so they have to get rewrapped anyway. I also know it can be quite pricey, Don's Bait & Tackle charges 20 bucks to replace a guide. I know from past experience.( stepping on a pole and breaking a few guides )BTW At the time of purchase the rods were around $ 160 Rich

| Almost sure to be cheaper to buy new rods. As Capt. Neil about his Long Isladner rod series, probably cheaper than fixing what you have. |

| Triple J Good morning, Do you have any desire to repair and rewrap your own rods? If so there is an excellent DVD by Steve Petrie. I admit he is a friend of mine and I still feel that it is the best made DVD on basic rod building. Tackle shops may have it or they can get it for you from Merrick Tackle. I can also get a copy shipped to you. I think the price is between $20-25. Capt Neil

| CAPT. Thanx for the heads up on the dvd, but I'll pass. I have enough things to do around the house and at work without getting into rod repairs. Rich
