o.k. small tackle & rod repair guys are dropping like flys! i usually have some winter rod repair & reel maintainance done @ clarke & clarke in south windsor. went by today to find his store empty! i only need a tip-top on a graphite spin rod. i know it's not difficult, but how do i determine the size/guage of my rod tip? i don't wish to buy a kit with many tips i'll never use, but if i can judge the size properly i can order the proper size & quality appropriate for my application. i'm sure i can do hot adhesive applications......wrapping on a mid-rod eye i'm sure i could not! suggestions appreciated mk | ||

| K, any tackle shop can sell you the right tip. They're inexpensive. Get a tube of ferrule cement. Heat it. Put a glop on the rod. Slide the tip on. Let the cement cool briefly. Done. It's really easy. (for heat, a candle or lighter works fine) Believe me, if I can do this, ANYONE can do it. | ||

| You could use a drill bit about the same size

| thanks, that's the process i imagined. i'm concidering buying the components online & want to be accurate in regards to the "tube" size. was hoping to guage by the diameter in inches & translate to size #.....i.e. a number 4 or number 6 tube size plenty of time, i'll check & the springfield show. | ||

| The show may be your best bet. I know that here you'd just walk in to the local mom/pop tackle shop and usually they'd put it on no problem. Problem is they're all closed up for the winter.

| Unfortunately I think we'll be seeing more and more of these shops closing their doors. Cabelas and especially the internet is just too much to compete with. Live bait is probably what's going to make/break them.
