Spooling Up

Guys, when spooling up what knot do you use say for braid or mono to initially attach the line to the spool?

Have you ever been dumped to just the knot?

If braid, wrap the spool core with cloth tape or electrical tape to give it something to "bite" on, or it can slip. I just tie a normal overhand knot, nothing special.

This take the overhand knot a step further and adds the anti slip knot to it.

The pro's recommend an albright with a lock when attaching braid to mono. I've never been down to the knot on the backing but the albright to a mono leader hasn't failed yet. (a dab of Krazy Glue doesn't hurt either).

Thats what we use to add the top shot of mono. I add a small peice of white tape to the spool and tie the braid to the spool with an UNI knot. We have around 700 yds of 65# Power Pro topped with about 250 feet of 65# Momoi Blue Diamond on just about all of our avets. Several are spooled to the top with 100# Power Pro.

I use both hollow core and regular solid braid. A simple knot will do just make a couple of turns and remember low profile is best

What are the pro's and con's of each?

I am about to line up some 30's and 50's and was considering regular power pro with a top shot until opinions on another site said don't use it because you can make a loop to loop connection properly without knots????

Now I am very confident with my not tying skills and never had one fail on a fish in braid. I don't see why regular braid wouln't be sufficient with the right knots on the offshore grounds.

Opinions???
