Thoughts on Shimano Tiagra

Last year I bought a Shimano Tiagra 30Wlrsa. I got a couple of trips in with this reel and loved it. I actually just ordered 2 more of them. Does any one here have feedback on these reels. Would you run them with Hollow core spectra with a top shot or run straight Mono 50lb test it has 570 yard capacity

They are the BEST....
What type of fishing you doing, cause it matters.....I spool mine with 60 pound Yo Zuri Hybrid for some things, and braid top shot of 80 for others.......

The hollow core will give you plenty of line on that reel, for sure.....

I have 4 of the tiagra 50 LRSA's and I love them. They are a great reel and fit well in your hand during the fight. I got mine rigged with 80# dacron and a 150 yard top shot of 80# mono. Not sure the line capacity but to put it into perspective I caught a 110# Bluefin and a 125# Mako on them last year and Didn't even see the dacron during the fights.

I recently picked up 2 tiagra 50 lrsa's and loaded them with @ 500 yards of 80 lb mono. Also ordered 2 30 lrsa's and have not put any line on them yet. I was thinking of putting 50 lb mono on them. I am after sbft out on Stellwagen. I have heard of all types of advice on what to put on them.

I have not used the reels yet and cannot wait to get out there.

quick note to add...i ordered all reels off of ebay and the prices cannot be beat. Not sure if anyone else has bought them online, but lower price + no sales tax makes a difference...over $100 per reel cheaper. I know you lose the potential local servicing if needed, but I don't expect a quality reel to have many, if any, defects.

I like hearing the positive feedback on my investment! Most of my fishing with these reels will be trolling out at the canyons for YFT, Mahi, and Longfins. I was thinking of trying out 80 or 100 spectra as a just in case kind of thing, to have some extra line strength and extra capacity.

Also if anyone has tips for splicing in topshots I could certainle use them as I have never spliced one in before.

Shimano Products

Anyone looking for great deals on shimano products the following site has been great http://www.shimanodealer.com/. Spoke with the owner and it is a family run shop. Great communication and service. I have used them on a few purchases and everything has been great.
