I see that they (Plat) are taking orders for the 2008 Shimano Stellas delivery in April @ 110,000 Yen (nearest I can figure $1,100.00). I was thinking of getting one for school BlueFin Tuna . . . but now I'm thinking I might be better off upgrading my ZB2 to a ZB2.75. Also looks like they have changed the 10000 and added a new model 18000. What do you think upgrade or drop a large wad of money on the Stellas? Up grading from the ZX2 to the ZX 2.75 would cost about $450.00. Further I fish more from the surf than I do from charters, or on my buddies boat. I could go either way, but I don't want to put a huge dent into my discretionary funds. Finally, I have this rod which is rated for 20 lbs, of drag which would be only 50 percent of the ZB2.75 capacity. So what to do? - rod too light? - reel gear ratio too low? Reaux Ocean-X-treme series rods use premium OTI-X1 composite blanks engineered for heavy-duty performance while staying lightweight for comfortable all-day fishing. These composite blanks have been specially formulated to provide a slow action that is easy on the body while maintaining high strength and durability for fighting big game fish. | The Stella reels are the most advanced reels on the market today, they are a evolution of many previous models that are know world wide as big fish killers. If you look at any of the major imported rod manufactures in the game of casting or jigging there is generally one reel on those rods ... you guessed it. The Stella Honestly the reel just kicks ass, 50+ lbs of drag, more than most 50w's, 400 yards of heavy braid, seamless and smooth like butter drag system. Honestly its a piece of art. I love mine, I couldn't fish without them. I've caught large Marlin on top water with them, big tuna of 100 lbs that are gaffed in less than 10 minutes, big sharks. The new ones are lighter with more capacity, a better spool lip which will increase your casting distance not that casting a 4 ounce popper 85-100 yards everytime is bad. The old 10,000 is now the size of the 8,000 smaller body reel. The new 18000 size takes the place of the current 10000 and of course there is the 20000 which is the bad boy. Zeebass is a great reel but for hardcore fishing nothing fishes like a Stella but what the hell do I know OTI makes a great rod by the way

Sounds like fun to me, as long as your son doesn't beat me up if I drop a fish. You're not making it easy on me, I've got a smaller Stella and it is as smooth as the inner thigh of . . . oh never mind. Damn, and I thought I had it figured all out, upgrade the ZB and save some bucks for lures. At any rate if if you would like to share a charter up here in the CCB area let me know. We can hash it out either on or off line. If you're thinking of going out of NJ then that might be a problem, as I might be going to Ellesmere Island in July looking for Devonian tetrapods. best. | And by the way the best thing about stellas is they retain value like crazy. You can resell your used reel for almost the same amount you paid and if its new you will get retail no problem
