Just curious what should be used on backing a conventional reel. I use my reels for 3/ waying eels and porgies. My main line is usually 150 yds of 30lb or 50lb power pro. In the past I have backed it up with 12lb mono. This weekend as I watched my 12 lb backing feed out to a large striper I began to think this may not be the best idea. And yes I lost that fish. The power pro broke near the fish. I assume he hit the line with a fin and it broke off.Any suggestions?PG | ||

| I use 50# mono backing on my bass setup's to 50# braid. My smaller setup's are all braid, just use tape on the spool before you fill the spool. Good Luck,

| Same as Alloy basically......on my Avet SX and Shimano Corsair, full braid....65# PP on the Avet and 30# PP on the Shimano, fill em up. On others I use either 50# or 30# Ande for backing (depending what I plan on using it for) then topping with more than I'll need of braid, making sure there'e plenty of extra for cutting off the ends often as it gets worn, etc.

| I know I'm not Eric but the Avet SX is just plain sweetness. Great for blacks and bass. Don't know what would happen with a 50 pound bass but I think it would get er done. | ||

| I love my Avet. It'll more than handle a 50# anything LOL. Very strong drag. I have 65# PP on it for a reason LOL ![]() I use it for bass, fluke, togs, and plan on using it for Cod even!
