What have you got to say about the topic of: "Everything Breaks". Here's how is started: "Is it just me, or is this country being saturated with junk. I just purchased "

Is it just me, or is this country being saturated with junk. I just purchased a new Whirlpool freezer and it came with only a one year guarantee. My friend bought a new kitchen stove and it too was covered for only one year. It crapped out after 13 months needing a $500 part. In my garage, I have a forty year old freezer (got it when my parents died) that looks like hell but still works. My last new refrigerator died before it reached seven years old. I now have two refrigerators (two kitchens) with ice makers and both ice makers died within two years. While one could troubleshoot them (I did) it usually is not worth it. My bi-metallic thermostat bit the dust and a new one cost $28, yet I could buy a brand new complete ice maker replacement kit on Ebay for $32. It seems to me, that quality has gone completely out of the products we now buy. Is it that we do not make anything anymore and import junk form China, or something else? I am getting sick and tired of replacing things after a year or two that previously lasted for decades. Not only do I now understand how ice makers work; I can replace one in less than ten minutes. I became so proficient in their repair only because their horrible track forced me to learn something about them. For what it is worth, Consumers Reports does not think too much of their track record for reliability either. Even worse, it is not just appliances as almost everything we now buy seems to be junk or just downright dangerous. "Medicines made from raw materials imported from China that can kill you, pet food that kills our pets, tomatoes from Mexico that can put you in the hospital, 7 year light bulbs that last 7 minutes, and flashlights that do not light. I just purchased a box of freezer zip lock bags with a blue plastic zipper on the bags. The first one I tried, the plastic zipper slipped off the plastic bag. I spent 20 minutes trying to put the zipper back on only to decide I must be nuts for even trying.
