Iran's speedboats

I want a sanity check from the members of this form. After hearing about Iran's small gunboats harassing our gray ships, and then have to listen our own Navy complain about it, I was dumbfounded. What are our cowardly Commanding Officers waiting for; to have one of our warships and crew taken hostage as it happened to the cowardly British. Our tax dollars provided our navy with the finest ships and weapons in the world. The last thing I want to hear is complaints from the navy. What I would like to hear is that they blasted the speed boats out the water. If our current crop of officers do not have the guts to defend the American flag, then maybe we should start putting retired dragger captains aboard our warships, they do not seem to have a problem when comes to taking action.

AND HOW !!

There is a defined ROE for this stuff. If they break the "barrier" they can blow them up, and SHOULD. If there's no ballz, or fear of political reprisal, let's get a little realistic here. They ALL hate the USA over there, so F'em. The more little pieces the better. As for the retired dragger captains, can you imagine? OMG, there'd be no need to worry.

Unfortunately I'll bet it was permission to fire.
They let these boats get closer than we can get to a sub leaving Groton.
Seems like the Iranians were looking to see how close they could get and
test our fortitude. They got their answer.

USS COLE was hit by a suicide boat in the port of Yemen in 2000. Seventeen sailors lost their lives. It was a blind shot that they took at the time since they were never warned of what was coming down. A small boat just came alongside and blew herself up. You make a very good point, one would think that when in dangerous waters, there may not be time to get permission to fire. I just do not understand what we are doing there. If it a political thing, such as we wish to make a showing of our strength, then getting our finest pushed around by bunch of small speed boats is not going hack it; if it shows anything it is that we are bluffing. It appears to me that Iran has called our bluff. If we do not mean business, then we should not be there. A weak hand is useless once a bluff has been discovered and called.

Patience my fellow Americans, you will have a war with Iran soon enough. It will be pretty ugly for all however. Remember we are dealing with fanatics over there. Ther are stronger then Iraq and look at that Quagmire.

No war wanted at all, but at the same time we cannot tolerate insurgence against our vessels.

A quagmire is an understatement if we engage with Iran. They are a nuclear capable military power, with an army that is 20x the size of the original Iraqi forces, and truly disciplined and organized. Combine that with the radical factions, and it should warn us to get the hell out of the Middle East.
