Not Just Another Tourist

Had my second trip to Cabo last month and thought I would share some of the fishing excitement my friend and I had while there. We arrived on the heels of Cabos close call with John and we thought the fishing might be messed up, but that proved not to be true.

Fished our first day on Mon 18th on the Gaviota IV. Left the harbor and ran up the Pacific Coast about 15 miles and the crew put out a trolling spread. Started picking up Doroado pretty quick and soon found a weedline that was covered up in Dorado. We pulled in the spread and started throwing out bait. Soon had 15 in the box with several nice bulls to 30#. Went back on the troll and ran into a big school of porpoise which we started to troll back abd forth through. Soon started to pick up some Yellowfin footballs going about 25#. Ended up with 6 in the box and told the crew we'd like to find some Marlin. They moved further off shore and we began the search. Ended up seeing one Marlin and a Sail, but couldn't get either one to take a bait. Still a great day.

Fished again on the same boat on Wed. Told them we wanted to look for Marlin and Sails and if we didn't catch anything that was OK. So they ran what must have been 30 miles east. There wasn't another boat in sight, but the Marlin and Sails were there. Ended up hooking 3 Stripers and 2 Sails. Landed and released one Marlin and one Sail. Also trolled up 2 Yellowfin.

Had a great trip as always and can't wait to get back. Shooting for May.
Good Luck All, Jack

Jim, Thanks for the reply.Yes the wife and I have fallen in love with the place. Would like to figure out a way to spend part of the year there. We'll see. Also would be great to have my boat there. Charters are are good, but I love to fish on my own. The nice thing on the charter we used was we brought our own tackle so they knew we were serious and let us do a lot of the fishing, not just reeling in fish. Will definitely be in touch the next time down. Shooting for May. Jack

ARTECKJIM, Thanks for the reply. Nice site you're developing here. Has some real potential with what you have done. Good luck. Cabo is a must place to go. Not that expensive and the fishing is great. Headed more to your area next week. Going to trailer over and hit the stripers off the coast in northern NJ. Jack
