September 18th, 2007 In the past few weeks Redrum Sportfishing and Cabo San Lucas has experienced some of its best fishing of the year. We were fortunate enough to have some excellent anglers on board our boats. With the busy month of October ahead of us we are looking forward to another great week. Fishing Report for August 27th - 7th as well as September 12th-17th Monday, August 27th Our new friends John Grogan and his wife went out on the first of their 3 days with Redrum. Aboard El Nuevo with Captain Alex and new mate Ramiro they were able to catch and release 5 Stripe Marlin and also caught a 35 lb Yellow fin Tuna. On Captain Omar’s 28’ Reel Rum he netted 2 Tuna and released 3 Stripe Marlin. Todd and his 2 children went out with Xavier on Rum Runnin to experience the thrill of a Marlin catch. They were able to get 4 Stripes to the boat for photos and releases. The catch of the day came from one of our partner boats. Laurita took out the Mr. Hall and his family as Tantrum had some problems with her starter. Understandably our folks were a bit hesitant of fishing a “non-Redrum” boat. We assured them that everything was going to be alright and that they had our word about the quality of boat we put them on. 12 Tuna, 6 Dorado, and 2 Stripe Marlin later with 20 flags hoisted on the 28’ boat the Halls were all smiles! Thank you for cooperating and we are glad everything worked out. Tuesday, August 28th Mr. Alan Ross and his son Danny are two people Redrum will never forget. With their fabulous attitude and great senses of humor it was great to chat with them in the office after they caught 2 Stripe Marlin well over the 175 lb class and 3 Bull Dorado with Alex and Ramiro on El Nuevo. Reel Rum had another great day catching 2 Marlin, 2 Dorado, and a Tuna. John Grogan headed out on Tantrum this time and reeled in 1 Marlin, 1 Tuna and 6 Dorado. Our buddy from San Antonio, Texas Rogan Giles had an outstanding day on Rum Runnin catching 4 Marlin and 5 Dorado. Wednesday, August 29th Danny Ross caught the estimated largest Dorado of the year for Redrum. Xavier estimated the Bull to be over 80 lbs. The fish fought for over an hour with Danny who had never been hooked into a fish this large before. When it was all said and done Danny, being the great angler he is decided to release the fish because it fought such an epic battle. His father Alan, caught and released 3 Marlin as well. Mr. & Mrs. Cho headed out with Cesar and had a fabulous day catching and releasing 6 Stripe Marlin. Reel Rum was able to catch 4 Dorado and 4 Tuna on a half day of fishing while El Nuevo and the Grogan’s ended their stay with 4 Marlin and 1 Dorado. Friday, August 31st We are proud to say that we were able host Mr. Dean Brown and his 15 friends as they came to Cabo for their annual Labor Day Weekend trip. This was the first time the group had made the trip to Cabo and we are glad they did. They took out the entire Redrum fleet and chalked up the fish on their first day out. The boys on El Nuevo caught 6 Tuna, 2 Dorado, 1 Marlin and 1 Sailfish. Team Rum Runnin caught 8 Dorado, 5 Tuna and 1 Stripe Marlin. Tantrum and her anglers added 5 Marlin and 1 Dorado to the tally while the guys on Reel Rum added another 5 Dorado, 3 Tuna, and 1 Stripe Marlin to the total count. Congratulations on a great day of fishing guys! Saturday, September 1st The Brown group split up while half of them went to play something called Golf ?? The other boys headed out for another day fishing on El Nuevo and Reel Rum. Between the 2 boats, a combined 5 Marlin, 4 Dorado, and a Wahoo were caught. The Brown party understands the importance of releasing Billfish and we are happy to say they released each one during their stay with Redrum. Tantrum and the Parks family had a great day with Cesar catching and releasing 4 Marlin as well as 4 Dorado for the fridge. Tom Castor and his wife Toni came to Cabo to test their hand at catching Billfish. They headed out their first day with Xavier and caught 2 Stripe Marlin, 1 Sailfish, 2 Dorado, and 6 Tuna. What a great first day! Sunday, September 2nd Our Labor day weekend group headed out on 3 of Redrum’s finest. The guys on Tantrum were the first back to the Marina flying 4 Marlin flags as well as a Dorado flag. Reel Rum followed with 5 Marlin flags, and 5 Catch and Release flags. Rum Runnin came in shortly after 5 Marlin and 2 Dorado. The Castor’s headed out with Alex and Ramiro and caught a large Dorado, a Tuna, and a Marlin. Monday, September 3rd The Schutte party headed out with Omar and mate Jesus on Reel Rum and caught a nice sized Blue Marlin. The captain estimated the fish to be around 250 lbs. El Nuevo ended their day catching 4 Striped Marlin and 4 Dorado. Tuesday, September 4th & Wednesday September 5th Port Closed due to foul weather: The great fishing came to a pause while Hurricane Henriette paid a visit to Baja California Sur. Cabo was directly in the projected path of the Hurricane but thankfully no one and nothing from Redrum was injured. Our Marina Manager Jorge elected to stay in the Redrum office on the Marina for 2 days to assure that nothing happened to our fleet. It is because of dedication like this that the Redrum team is amongst the best in Cabo San Lucas. Thursday, September 6th Henriette had little affect on the fishing grounds. Normally fishing tends to be hit or miss after bad weather. We will consider today a hit! Alex had no problem headed out to the same spots as he took Tom Castor out for his last day with Redrum and hooked him into 4 Marlin and a Dorado. Cesar headed out with Mike Tessaro on his day and showed him what it was like to catch and release 6 Marlin and reel in 2 Dorado in one day! Rum Runnin and the Beilgard party caught and released 3 Marlin as well as a Wahoo. Friday, September 7th The Fromm party headed out for a half-day on El Nuevo and released 2 beautiful Stripe Marlin. Mr. Tessaro and Jason Nugent headed out again with Cesar and Tantrum. Today Cesar did a little better than yesterday; 8 Stripe Marlin caught and released as well as a nice sized Dorado for dinner! Rum Runnin and Amy Anthony hooked into 2 Dorado and 4 Marlin to end their day with Xavier. Wednesday, September 12th El Nuevo caught and released 3 Marlin while Reel Rum fought 3 Dorado to the boat while Rum Runnin and the Brown party caught and released 4 Stripe Marlin and 2 Dorado. Tantrum and the Meyers family had a good day with Cesar with 2 Marlin and 3 Dorado when it was all said and done. Thursday, September 13th Redrum loves to host friendly competition between groups, parties, and families. The O’Connor party came to us with a special favor and asked us to find them a couple of larger boats, in the 40+ foot range for their day out on the water in Cabo. With the great team at Redrum we were able to make it happen. We organized a head-to-head, battle of the sexes between the family. Shannon, Courtney and the bridesmaids ended their day with 4 Marlin and 2 monster Dorado. Three of the Marlin were hooked up at the same time. The captain of their boat really surprised the ladies when he jumped in the water, and swam with the rod and reel under the boat to make sure that Shannon reeled in her Marlin. That is dedication! The fellas had a good run at it as they caught 2 Marlin and 3 Dorado. The captain was a little cranky because of the difficult defeat, but we have very competitive guys working for us! Aside from all that action, the Redrum fleet was up to the usual. Rum Runnin and the Yanez party ended their day with 2 Marlin and 3 Dorado. While Reel Rum and the Chabaks caught 3 Dorado. Cesar was busy with the Hands family catching 3 Marlin, 4 Dorado and a Wahoo. El Nuevo fished with out buddy Scott and ended their day with 2 Marlin and 5 Dorado. Friday, September 14th Scott headed out on El Nuevo again and caught 4 Tuna and 2 Dorado. One of the Tuna that was reeled in weighed in over 100 lbs and was the first in that weight class for Redrum. Thanks Scott and we enjoyed having you guys fish Redrum. Reel Rum and Rum Runnin were rented out for half-days by the Gyger family. Reel was able to get into some Dorado while Rum Runnin didn’t have enough time to reel in the big one. Mr. Von Holt and Cesar headed out and hooked into 2 Stripe Marlin for release. Saturday, September 15th Mr. Oppenheimen and Omar headed out on Reel Rum and had a great day. 1 Stripe Marlin, 1 Sailfish, 1 Dorado, and 1 Mako calls for a busy day and a lot of different fish. Nothing like bringing in a load of different species. Congrats! Tantrum hit it big with 8 Tuna, 2 Dorado, and 2 Marlin with the Smith’s. Rum Runnin and Ivey’s caught and released 2 Sailfish and kept a Dorado for the dinner! Alex and the Rule party caught and released a pair of Stripe Marlin and hooked into 2 nice Dorado to end their day on El Nuevo. Sunday, September 16th Day off. Mexican Holiday. Monday. September 17th John E. and Cesar made their run and came back with a nice Stripe Marlin while Omar and our buddy Joe were able to get 2 Stripe Marlin to the boat for some photos and a Dorado to the boat for the Ziploc’s! As you can see the fishing has been top-notch lately for Redurm . Whether it is one of our 28’ boats or a +40’ that we can arrange everyone seems to be happy and that’s what matters to Redrum. October is going to be a busy month for all of us down here in Baja so drop us a line and set up your next trip with Redrum! 'A fisherman is always hopeful- nearly always more hopeful than he has any right to be.' Roderick Haig Brown On a side note, our favorite office manager Luis is undergoing a minor surgery Wednesday the 19th. We ask that everyone please keep Luis in your thoughts and prayers. Get well soon Pal, we certainly miss you around the office. August 27th Redrum Cabo San Lucas seemed to be just out of the reach of Hurricane Dean that shook up the Gulf Coast earlier this week. Although we did receive unusual strong winds earlier in the week fishing continued to stay positive for the anglers who stepped on Redrum boats this week. Our captains are still heading out to Golden Gate in search for the big Marlin, and Dorado. The Tuna continue to be in and out of the picture. Their time will soon come as well. Fish Report for August 20th- August 26th: Monday, August 20thTantrum went out with the Morena party and caught one Stripe Marlin, 1 Dorado, and 1 football Tuna. Reel Rum and the Kuhl party hooked into 2 Marlin and were able to bring one up to the boat for a few pictures before its release. Tuesday, August 21st El Nuevo took Mr. and Mrs. Michali along with their daughter for a day to remember. Alex was able to hook each one of them into a Marlin as well as getting them Dorado (2) and Tuna (2) for dinner. The Michali’s walked in our office Sunday not knowing what to expect if they headed out with Redrum. Turns out they had a great time along with great fishing. Tantrum and the Newitt couple headed out and caught 2 Marlin and 4 Dorado with Cesar. Wednesday, August 22ndOur good friend John Heingan came by to fish Redrum again. Instead of heading out with his usually crew of Omar and Ramon on Reel Rum; he headed out with Xavier and his new Cummins 315hp in Rum Runnin. He was able to show his buddy a great time by catching 4 large Bull Dorado as well as 3 Stripe Marlin. The Sims couple on Reel Rum had great times fishing with Omar as they caught a Trophy Stripe Marlin (Omar told me he thinks it may have been a mix between a Stripe and a Blue because of the colors it bared). They also had an amazing dinner that was set up by Redrum. It was a pleasure meeting you guys, come back and see us soon. Thursday, August 23rdReel Rum headed out for a half-day trip and ended their day with a Catch and Release Stripe Marlin. El Nuevo took out the Cera family and hooked into 2 Dorado and 2 Stripe Marlin. While Karen Schemell and husband headed out on Rum Runnin and caught a large Dorado as well as a pair of Stripe Marlin. Cesar led the pack again by raising 6 flags at the end of the day. 2 Stripe Marlin, 2 Dorado, and 2 Tuna were caught by Cesar when it was all said and done. Friday, August 24thOur friend Sergio Lopez from San Francisco came back to visit Redrum after a great experience in March. He headed out with Rum Runnin and Xavier with 4 of his buddies. They came back after catching and releasing 4 Stripe Marlin. It was great meeting you guys and we hope to see you soon. Thanks again. The Englerts headed out with Tantrum on their first of 2 trips. On the first day Cesar put the father-son duo onto 7 Stripe Marlin and 2 Bull Dorado. Omar managed to hook into a Stripe Marlin and release it before heading back to the Marina as his clients had to be back by 10:00am for their 1:00 pm flight back to the states. Talk about being under pressure! Saturday, August 25thThe Englerts and Cesar headed out on Tantrum again. Again, Cesar was able to hook the guys into 7 Marlin and 2 Dorado. In a matter of 2 days, a combined 16 hours on the water Cesar was able to bring 14 Stripe Marlin to the boat to release as well as 4 Dorado. Matt Perham caught and released 2 Marlin aboard Rum Runnin. He was also able to keep 2 Dorado. Our special anglers- The Piere Family from the Make-A-Wish Foundation fished aboard Reel Rum. Mrs. Piere was looking to set a New World Record by catching a 190 lb. or bigger Stripe Marlin. After hooking in and fighting one for a few minutes the large Marlin performed a full breach and headed straight down snapping her line. It was a great effort though and although the Record was not met they still had a great time catching and releasing Marlin, Dorado and Tuna. Sunday, August 26thAlex and El Nuevo brought back great news to the Marina. The Tuberg party aboard Nuevo hooked into a 300 lb Black Marlin. The first of the season for Team Redrum. The great news is the fish was brought up to the boat and they were able to release it. Usually with a Black Marlin they will fight to their own death. Luckily that was not the case for this beautiful Black. Congrats guys and way to go El Nuevo! Tantrum and the Piere’s brought in 5 monster Dorado for their freezer. Reel Rum headed out and caught and released a Stripe Marlin. The season in Cabo is supposed to be low right now but thanks to dedicated anglers Redrum has continued its success. Cabo Wabo and Squid Roe aren’t the only things that people come to Cabo for these days. Join the rest of the Redrum crew and get online to book your charter now! Your dream day awaits you. “Nothing is ever simple about fish, whether it’s catching them or understanding them” A.J. McClane August 20th Redrum The crowds in Cabo did not seem to be as large this week due to families getting ready to head back to school. The fishing was just as strong with Stripe and Blue Marlin bite, Dorado and a few Tuna. Yet again the strong sun, little cloud coverage, and calm nights created warm waters for our captains to fish. Golden Gate was the playground for Marlin and Dorado this week. Near perfect temperature breaks made the Marlin bite almost guaranteed. Fish Report for August 13th- August 19th: Monday, August 13thAlex and Manuel just may have converted the- fresh water fishing Jones family from Louisville, Kentucky! El Nuevo hooked into 3 large Stripe Marlin. They had a great time reeling in each fish that averaged nearly an hour per fight. Reel Rum brought in its first Blue Marlin of the year. Summer Galindo and gang hustled in 3 large Dorado and a Stripe Marlin while aboard Tantrum with Cesar. Tuesday, August 14th With no charters scheduled for the Redrum had a chance to sharpen up the hooks, tighten up the chairs, and clean the decks. After running 114 charters in July it was time to give a little “TLC” to the boats. Wednesday, August 15thOmar was the first boat back to the Marina. The Murrell party that was about Reel Rum hooked into 2 Stripe Marlin as well as 3 Dorado. The Vawter family came in from Idaho for 2 days of fishing on Tantrum. The first day Mr. Vawter hooked into a nice Stripe Marlin for picture and release. The Yule party that rode out with Alex and Manuel on El Nuevo Caught and Released 3 Stripe Marlin on their full-day trip Thursday, August 16thThe Vawter family headed out again bright and early on Tantrum. Cesar beat the crowd back to the office after catching 4 Stripe Marlin, 3 Dorado, and 1 Tuna. We had the Dorado frozen and loaded with Mr. Vawter who will be taking it back to his daughter who just so happens to be a first-class chef that specializes in fish! What a lucky family! Dick Choate and his buddy Dave walked in our office Wednesday afternoon and wanted to fish. We hooked them up with El Nuevo and watch them come back with 3 Marlin, 3 Dorado and a Tuna. They could not have been happier to have walked through the Redrum doors! Friday, August 17thIf you have a trip with Redrum and you are unable to make it please make sure you let us know at least 24 hours before your trip. Our captains and mates are eager to head out every morning and enjoy the work. We take pride in being one of the busiest charter companies in Cabo and appreciate a heads up if you are not going to be able to make your trip. The fishing is great right now and we would love to give everyone that wants a chance to head out and hook the big one! Saturday, August 18thOur local buddy Dustin called us up and booked a trip for him and his visiting friends. Nothing like impressing people from out of town with 4 Marlin and 5 Dorado like he did while fishing on Reel Rum with Omar. Cesar had an equally impressive day with 5 Marlin and 4 Dorado while fishing with the Mr. and Mrs. Tuennell. Sunday, August 19thUnfortunately, the Port was closed. Some strong winds that blew into Cabo Saturday night led to rough seas. The Port Captain issued a report that closed the Port down at 9:00 pm Saturday night due to “severe rough seas”. The port did not open until 4:50 pm later that afternoon. Although we do everything in our power to make sure everyone goes out and fishes we have to understand that sometimes you can’t beat Mother Nature! The good news is all the boys are out today and the seas look more inviting than ever! “A fisherman has many dreams. Some dreams, even those of a fisherman, come true” Zane Grey August 13th Redrum This week each boat in the Redrum fleet had one thing in common: Each boat that is going out is coming back with multiple flags flying high after their day out on the water! That’s because the fishing was phenomenal this past week for the Redrum. Tuna, Dorado, and Marlin were the targeted fish this week and our Captains and Mates made sure they worked to get all our anglers hooked up. The fishing grounds are only about 35 away right now. I have received reports from Alex telling me he has been hitting up the San Jaime spot for his Tuna and Marlin. Fish Report for August 6th- August 12th: Monday, August 6thRob Burchuk and his son began their 2 day of fishing with Redrum. Being avid fisherman they knew that Cabo was a great spot to fish for Dorado, Marlin, and Tuna. On their first trip out with Alex they reeled in 3 Dorado and 2 Striped Marlin. Alex said the Dorado were Bull Dorado all weighing at least 30 lbs. What a great way to spend with your son. Our good friend Roland Aubert from San Antonio TX fished with Cesar on Tantrum and had an absolute great time. He was able to catch and release a Striped Marlin, and caught some enjoyable Tuna and Dorado. Reel Rum took out Mr. Chuck Grouzard and his group. Omar and Jesus hooked up with a total of 4 Striped Marlin. At one point Omar told me they had a triple hook up! Not a bad way to start the week! Tuesday, August 7th Mrs. Chryill Sandrini brought her family along with her for a trip with Alex and El Nuevo. Alex and Manuel hooked into 4 Striped Marlin and 2 Tuna. The Sandrini girls came up with a little cheer that they wanted me to share as well. “Redrum, Redrum they make the fishing yum-yum”! They even had Alex saying it by the time they got back. Omar had a half-day on Reel Rum with the Jefferey party and hooked into a nearly 200 lb Striped Marlin! Wednesday, August 8thJoe Simpson chartered Tantrum for the day. Cesar did his best to land some fish for the freezer for Mr. Simpson. They ended their day with 2 Dorado and a Yellow-fin Tuna. El Nuevo, Mr. Tom Nagle and his 2 boys spent the day reeling in 2 Striped Marlin and a pair of Bull Dorado. Thursday, August 9thOmar and Reel Rum was the first boat in the marina today with 8 flags flying high. Mr. Thomason and his 2 girls fought 4 Tuna and 4 Dorado to the boat. Excellent day! Cesar and Tantrum had a similar day with Mr. Shane Wagner aboard. He was also able to bring in 4 Tuna and 4 Dorado. The Higgins party aboard El Nuevo hunted for Yellow-fin Tuna and that’s what they got! Alex found a school of porpoise near the San Jaime Banks and was able to hook up 6 Tuna. Friday, August 10thAgain Alex was asked to go look for the Tuna as Rob Burchuk and his son headed out on their second trip aboard El Nuevo. He headed to the same spot as yesterday and like clockwork found a nice school of porpoise and got to work. On their first pass through the dolphin they hooked up with 4 Tuna, second pass added 3 more to the cooler. The next pass Alex told me they had 3 Tuna hooked up when he spotted a Marlin. He pitched live bait to the big fish and sure enough… hook up! The 2 Burchuk’s had 3 Tuna and a Striped Marlin on their lines all at once! After making a couple of more passes through the large school of porpoise they ended their day with 14 Yellow-Fin Tuna and 2 Striped Marlin. It was a pleasure meeting the two of you guys and we hope to see you again. Cyndi Figg caught and released a Striped Marlin while fishing with Cesar on Tantrum, while Omar and the Atkinson party hooked into 2 Dorado, a Tuna and a Striped Marlin. Saturday, August 11thWe would like to send a special Thank You to the Fort Worth chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association. In February of this past year the CCA was nice enough to allow us to donate a package to be auctioned off during one of their banquets. The winners spent 5 days down in Cabo and fished on El Nuevo 2 days. On their first trip with El Nuevo they hooked into 2 Striped Marlin Catch and Release, 1 Dorado, and 6 Tuna. Omar took out Mia Heitland and her husband for his birthday. They ended the day with 1 Striped Marlin and 2 Tuna. Happy Birthday Mr. Heitland from Redrum! Jeff Early from Fort Worth, Texas went out with Cesar and Tantrum. Cesar and Jose hooked them into 2 Tuna and 1 Dorado. Sunday, August 12thOur good buddies from the Fort Worth CCA group ended their 2 day fishing trip with Redrum with 4 Striped Marlin and a large Bull Dorado. We had a great time meeting you guys and working with the Fort Worth TX, CCA Organization. Come see us soon. Mrs. Billye Souder, her husband, and daughter went out with Cesar on Tantrum and hooked into 2 nice size Marlin. They were able to get them up to the boat for pictures and back into the water for the release. Mr. Clack and his son from Kerrville, TX went out on Reel Rum with Omar. Upon their arrival Mr. Clack explained to me that he had never seen a Captain and Mate work so well together. This was after they reeled in 3 Striped Marlin and a 4 foot Dorado! It was a pleasure meeting you guys. “If you wish to be happy for 8 days kill your pig and eat it. If you wish to be happy for a lifetime, learn to fish” -Chinese Proverb August 6th Redrum We picked up right where we left off last week. With temperatures ranging from 95-100 degrees our clients reeled in numerous Marlin, Tuna, and Dorado. Not only was the temperature hot but so was the fishing.
