Greetings Amigos! April 2007 Take Baja to the Next Level
Are you ready for the charter fishing trip of a lifetime? Certainly not for the faint of heart, this new charter opportunity is for the hardcore aFISHianado. RedRum Sportfishing is pleased to offer our customers a truly unique Cabo fishing experience, the Finger Banks. As you may or may not know different banks, or severe drop offs in the ocean, make up the majority of our fishing grounds. One of the reasons Cabo is such a hotbed for offshore fishing lies in the fact that one-thousand yards from the beach the ocean floor drastically drops off hundreds of feet. These banks offer the temperature change and structure that attracts the small fish and, in turn, the big ones as well.

Located approximately 65 miles from the tip of Cabo, the Finger Banks are a relatively untouched resource. Few charter boats, if any, will be seen throughout the day as you fish one of the most productive banks on the west coast. You will leave the dock around 4:30 a.m. and return between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. depending on the conditions in the Pacific.
Our exploratory trip in November of last year produced a phenominal day of fishing. Or so we thought, our experienced Captain quickly told us that our 3 Marlin, 6 Dorado, and 4 football-size Tuna was an average day at the Finger Banks. If that was average, we thought, then we need to introduce this place to our clients. We started talking to people about the Finger Banks Trip at the Fred Hall Fishing Shows in California where we heard several tales of unbelievable days at hotspot. One gentleman told us he has been going there for years and double digit Marlin hook-ups were not uncommon.
If we want to be the best outfit in Baja we have to offer trips to one of Baja's best spots. Trips to the Finger Banks obviously require a lot more time and fuel. El Nuevo RedRum, the 33' Bertram, will be your ride for the day and the cost is $900 USD. We are taking reservations now for the Finger Banks Trip, however, we will not send you up there unless we hear good reports from the area. Like any fishing trip, nothing is guaranteed from these fishing grounds, but if history is on your side you should be in for a great day of fishing.

Check our website soon for a video clip of our last trip to the Finger Banks.

Dolphin Fish, Mahi Mahi, Dorado: which is it?

This is a question that we hear all to frequently in Cabo. Well lets get the facts out there and figure this one out once in for all. Coryphaena hippurus, is the beautiful green and yellow fish that is causing all this confusion.
  • 'Mahi Mahi' is the Hawaiin name for the fish, which translates to 'Strong Stong'
  • Our friends here have always referred to the fish as a 'Dorado'
  • And finally, folks in the United States gave the fish the name 'Dolphin Fish' even though there is no relation whatsoever to the Porpoise, which can be referred to as Dolphin
  • The Dorado is sometimes classified as a type of Tuna, this is also incorrect.
  • Dorado are one of the fastest growing fish in the ocean, average lifespan is only 4-5 years for a healthy Dorado
  • The term "Bull Dolphin" refers to a male Dorado, they can be differentiated from the females by their square shaped foreheads. Females are usually smaller and have a round shaped head.

With new multi day and group rates available through RedRum Sportfishing your upcoming fishing trip can be more affordable than ever.

Back in 1985, co-owner John Donovan made his first of many many trips to Cabo with a group of long time friends and a few work collegues. The town was much different then but two things have stayed consistent through the years. The first of which is, of course, the fishing. And the second would be John Donovan organizing a group of buddies to come fishing with.

That first group in 1985 was only 5 or 6 guys, but when the groups started to reach 25-30 people deciphering who paid what and who still owed became quite the task.

Well RedRum Sportfishing has finally taken all the guess work out of it. $150 per person, per day of fishing. Simple as that, done deal, everything included. Fishing license, boxed breakfast and lunch, bait and tackle, ice, water, and even beer. This package price is based on 4 persons per boat.

Maybe you aren't coming down to Cabo with a big group but you still want the most affordable fishing adventure possible.

We are now offering multi-day discounts to our clients who fish with us for two or three days during their stay in Cabo. If you fish 2 days we will take $100 off of your second charter. If you fish 3 days we will take $100 off of second and third fishing days.

Feel free to contact us at info@redrumcabo.com with any questions regarding our new rates.

*Please note that these rate packages may not be used in conjunction.
