Braided Lines

I've been using PowerPro for the past 7 years.Never had any issues with it.
Twice,I've decided to try something new.A few years back I tried TuffLineXP when it 1st came out.Took the line off 5 reels to load up with the XP for a trip to the OBX.Nothing but wind knots and snap offs.
Back to the PP.....expensive trial.
Friday,I loaded a reel up with the somewhat new Sufix braid....30#.
Fished a tourney in Jersey Saturday and had the same problems.Wind knots galore.Lost 2 metals....one a prototype I'm doing, and lots of line.
Frustrated to say the least.

What's your experience with the different braids out there?

Ive only used YKG Japanese color coded braided line, its really soft (but expensive $90-180 to spool) like string and has an amazing breaking strength. But thats for jigging. I have heard great reports about tuffline and i have used teh suffix before with the same issues you stated but the tackle stores swear by suffix

Braided Lines

I've been using braid for at least 10 years. My favorite is powerpro and I also like Stren super braid. For inshore just use a "top shot" (100-150 yards). Fill the reel with cheap mono as backing, some say you need dacron as backing but I have not found that to be true. If you find a line you like STICK WITH IT - some of my buddies like "Fireline" - I hate it. (PowerPro and the Stren for me). Jack

We pretty much do as Jack mentions. "top shot" 150 yds. over mono.
We also reverse the line, depending on use/condition I simply reapply it to another reel so the more worn line is not on top. Seems to last us a little longer this way.

PowerPro to the end. Tried a few others, and went back to PP. This is all for inshore, obviously, but that's where I fish.

TOO FUNNY THAT THIS WAS POSTED!!!!!!!!

One of the "snags" (sorry that was weak hahahaha) we had in our trip yesterday was the F-in Fireline getting wind-knotted up.

I was tying it direct to my mono leader, casting metal, and it SUCKED!

Lost a nice crippled herring that was catching very well. Otherwise, just plain annoying as hell.

Did I say FIRELINE SUCKS?????

Anyway, I tried it because someone gave me a huge spool ($80 worth) and up until now have used my spinners for bottom fishing or with swivels. No problem with any of that the last 2 years, but Saturdays trip was hours of casting with direct-tied lines.......that told the truth.

One of my 704's we stripped it off down to the backer to keep fishing. The other is getting stripped off this week and I'm respooling both with Power Pro.

Been using PP for about 5 years and no real problems with it. Tried Suffix last year and didn't like it at all compared to the PP. This year spooled up a stradic with 20lb fireline and love it so far. Have heard the fireline is more abrasion resistant we'll see this year, have lost a few nice fish on PP in the rocks.
