i just bought a bunch of 80lb berkley hollow core (it's new this year). a LOT less expensive than the jerry brown 80lb (which is 2x the price of jerry brown 130lb). $57 for a 500 yard spool. it feels extremely soft and flexible, very similar to JB. very easy to splice (although i don't really have a bench mark here to go by). i have no problem getting 80lb mono 10 feet in, loops are even easier. we'll see how it works on the water, but so far i'm pretty excited about it.

I never had a problem with Fireline bottom fishing for togs......even direct tied to my fluoro.....

But this last trip I really put it to the test with hundreds of cast/retrieves, direct tied to different plugs, metal, etc.

Didn't take long before it went to hell.

My father even said (after we started having problems):

"You know, years ago I tried Fireline when it came out and now I remember why I didn't like it.......wind knots galore."

I have PP is on 4 of 9 reels. The others, 2 w/stren braid 3w/mono. I hardly use the mono reels any more. Even the back up spools have PP. Honestly I can't tell the difference in performance between the PP or Stren except when I pay for new line. Wind knots happen no matter what you use. All depends on condition and weight on the end of the line.

I'd have to give PP the upper hand if I have to pick one.

I have it on my surf rod and have been using it plugging in the river nearly every night for a couple weeks and have yet to have any knots or problems with the line. I think some braids dont' do well on certain reels, I'm also very careful to flip the bail manually and make sure the line hasn't crossed the spool before reeling in. As I said I had tons of problems with the 50lb suffix, especially working slug-os where the line doesn't usually have a lot of tension on it. I have heard the 30lb Fireline is tough to use but have heard good things about the 20lb, like it so far hopefully that holds true through the season.

Good info.
Thanks everyone.
I took a look at the Sufix line that I had to cut off.It looks like the strands are seperating.
Very strange indeed.Back to PowerPro for me.
