Hi, Am glad I saw your post. While in the Navy I applied for Annapolis and Sub School. Was turned down for both as I wore glasses and that was a no no in 1957. However, I did get to sail on 2 subs for a day as a guest. Both were WWII subs. As a 19 year old I thought submerging and leveling off at 300' was special. Well, the Spikefish was one of the subs. The Archerfish was the other. I appreciate that I saw your post. Thanks. Capt Neil

I've ask around and I know that there have been only a few dives made on this wreck. the first one was made just to identify it. Because it's so deep not many others have been down there. just wondering if after it was struck from active service it had a role to play in some cold war actitivies. It did spend some time in dry dock. Re outfitted???? Could be why numbers are so had to come by

| Hi, Just something I learned yesterday. The 2 WWII subs that I spent a day on, Spikefish and Archerfish, both were used as targets after being decommissioned. Spikefish on the east coast and Archerfish on the west coast. Capt Neil

The spikefish should be 46 nm SSE of Montauk point in about 220' of Water. I understand some of the trawler boats requested that it be placed on the charts as it turned out to be a big hang for them. After that Ocean services placed it on the chart as a "?" as it was unidentified at the time. It's location is still aprox.
