| volund......wreck Vessel Name..Volund Vessel Type...Norwegian freighter Length / Beam / Draft (feet)...Approx. 300' Tonnage 1,600 Hull Construction Iron Propulsion Steam / Screw Built 1891 Date of Loss September 26, 1908 Reason for Loss Collision in fog (at night) with the Fall River Line steamer Commonwealth. Volund sank in a few minutes. Fatalities None - All 16 crew members were rescued and taken aboard the Commonwealth Location The Race, Long Island Sound, off the east end of Fisher's Island.
