Thumbs up Automated Radio Checks

Hi all I am pleased to annouce Sea Tow RI will be providing a new public service to Rhode Island boaters. No longer will you have to call out on channel 9 VHF and hope someone will give you a radio check or ask for one on channel 16 VHF and have to USGC yelp at you " radio checks shouldn't be done on 16 VHF"

You will be able to go to VHF channel 24 and get and automated radio check 24/7/365. Just key your mike and ask for a radio check as you would on channel 9. You will get a short message and a play back of how you sound. This means you will not only get a radio check about you'll hear how you really sound.

This system be up and running by the end of the month. If you'd like to hear a demo of the system come to the prov boat show this weekend. The system will serve the bay area and the antenna is located at the mouth of Allens harbour at my Sea tow office. Anyone having questions about the system please post them and I'll do my best to answer them.

<------- cause Old mud just loves smiles

PS. this is a free public serve provide by Sea Tow RI, I hope you all like it and use it often.

That's an exellant service Capt. It's too bad Ct. doesn't do that. But, being out of Mystic I should be able to get contact, do you agree?

Thanks guy's
This system is so new I'm the first one to have it. Other Sea Tow's will surly follow. I'm not sure if you guy's in CT will be able to hit this antenna in mid bay of RI, but your welcome to try. I will let everyone know when the system is up and ready to run. I would love to have feed back on you feel about it and how well it works.
This system is designed to service a local area so different Sea Tow's can have it without overlap issues. You guy's in CT bit hit it on the right day, but I doubt you'll hit it all the time.

So, far everyone seems to love the radio check system. I have been getting great feed back from people trying it at the show. If any of you have tried it or come to the show and try it over the weekend please post your thoughts on it. I look forward to seeing your comment. My goal here is to have this be a public service that holds real value and adds safe to boaters.

Great idea. One question. Do you get a location from the repeater with the reply message?

Hi guy's, thanks for the comments and questions. R.D.T. I'm sure over time many, if not all Sea Tows will get the system, you can help move it along if the write or speak with your local Sea Tow and ask about it, with enough requests, I'm sure they'll move it toward the top of the list.

G.R. Not at this time, but I'm sure I could do so. The antenna for RI is located at my base at Allens harbor, by knowing that location you'll know your range without it being transmitted.
