A little birdy told me Santa was bringing me a nice ditchbag. I was wondering what you guys keep or think we should be keeping in these? I fish on my own and other peoples boats, sometimes offshore, mostly inshore and I want to set it up to handle many different emergencies. My short list includes. GPS EPIRB (when I get one) Rope Multi tool First aid What else?? Extra six pack (just kidding) lets try to keep it somewhat serious, atleast at first. Thanks guys.

| In mine (I have the exact same bag from LRSE) I have: ACR GlobalFix 406 EPIRB (w/built in GPS, from LRSE) First Aid Kit Complete Flare/Safety Equipment Kit A bunch of pre-rationed packets of WATER (from LRSE also) Probably a few other things not mentioned, but it is full to the brim LOL. My EPIRB doesn't stay in it, it stays NEXT to it, if needed, I'd unclip it from the bracket and slip it in the elastic side-pocket made for it.

I recommend a survival 40' Orange Streamer that jets out and trails behind you if in water. It can easily be rolled up and when let loose it gives a ship, plane or other search and rescue platform a much better target. Personal Epirbs are coming down in price also.

excellent idea Capt Dave. Can you please provide a detailed list that a small boat operator like me should have? I know of the coast guard requirements but I'm thinking additional items i.e. blankets etc. Thanks Armand p.s. Thanks for your service to us all in the USCG. Merry Christmas

| Just a quick note: Great thread and we'll get a good list going..... But bear in mind for those with "limited budgets" or space.... Weigh your options and weigh the importance of items in your own personal case to see what to bring. For Example: If you have an EPIRB like the GlobalFix with built in GPS (not necessarily PLB, but the full-fledged unit) and a good raft, chances are you'll be found rather quickly, so you want to make sure you AT LEAST have items to carry you through a somewhat "short" wait......water, first aid, flare kits w/mirrors, etc.....also like Dave's idea on the streamer! Just food for thought so you know you don't have to go "overboard" too
