Way to easy to get caught up in the moment, and loose focus on safety
In my opinion not enough people speak up. Good for you.

Yeah the EMT's said they have to actually pull the ambulances over.

I have recetered my CPR three times. If you havent done it recently you should. The protocols have changed. Its now 30 compressions to 2 breaths. AED's are great and have the most chance of bringing someone back that can be performed by a lay person with minimal training. However they can only shock if the heart is in certain rythms. My first aid bag is everything short of an IV setup and sutures. Everything short of an arterial bleed can be controled by direct pressure, elevation and arterial pressure point.

First aid kits

I recently came across "Bleed-X," a product designed to stop bleeding, and have added it to my kit.

Is it similar to the sponges that the military carries?

Sounds a lot like the kind of bag I am looking to put together demon. Would you mind elaborating what you actually carry?

New bag will have:

1. latex gloves. Protects you and helps keep anything worse from getting in the wound.
2. 4x4, 6x6 sterile pads
3. several rolls of gauze in different widths
4. several rolls of medical tape, different widths.
5. several splinting boards
6. thermometer
7. blood pressure cuff &scope
8.blood clotting sponges that the military have
9. pen light
10.sterile water, several bottles.
11.scissors
12.ice and heat packs
13. gauze eye patches
14.pedi lite drink
15.blankets

Great list.. I would have missed the following for the boat:
6. thermometer
7. blood pressure cuff &scope
8. blood clotting sponges that the military have
9. pen light
14.pedi lite drink

Now that I think of it we keep what I refer to as "The medicine Bag" put together for our trips to our remote place in Maine. It is essentially inclusive of everything on the list except of #8, which I'll have to look for. Maybe I'll duplicate that bag, which also includes all kinds of medicines, advil, spare prescription meds for emergencies, cough/cold med's antacids, Dramamine etc.

I'd also add a wrist based heart rate monitor. I used one for working out an it's always exact to taking it manually. If someone is have some trouble and the watch readings are concerning you can always confirm manually, but you can't realistically monitor manually if you are doing a bunch of other stuff.

With mom being a nurse and me having borderline high blood pressure, I have more than a few scopes and cuffs around the house. Why I never thought of that is beyond me!

Thanks for this post.. Sounds like a reasonable and and practical kit. I have most everything else on it already

After having a pretty good little accident on a boat where I was a guest last summer. (It included a 9/0 hook, a pissed of Mahi of about 20lbs and my calf muscle) I started carrying my own 1st aid kid when ever I went on someone elses boat. I realized that you can't always depend on the boat to have one. My Kit pretty much includes all of the above but I also like to include peroxide, rubbing alcohol, Benadryl and an Epipen, and something a little more for pain like a vicodan (because let me tell you after having a 9/0 hook in your leg for 8 hours it gets a little tender)

I like this thread and find it interesting the different items people are listing.

The epi pen and vicoden are geat except you better have a perscription for both as they are illegal to carry without.
