| It's an old type of 3 strand line, I believe cotton. treated to last and stinks so it must be tar. LOL It's great for decoy anchor line (very easy to untangle). Also used it to knit lobster trap heads and other nets. It was also used for hand lines, the real thin stuff on those cheap hand reels. The stuff I used was heavy, stiff and smelly. Haven't bought any in probably 20 years and I've only a little bit left. Have to raid the decoy bags and steal some off them if I can't find any. Stars in Wallingford was the last place I ever found it and they've been closed forever. Guess not much call for it any longer. Lobster heads are knitted with synthetics etc etc.

| Chessie, That looks interesting out of nylon instead of cotton. Is it nice and stiff and easy to untangle? Those were some of the best qualities of the stuff I'm used to. Would put out up to 250 decoys with two per line, means lots to get tangled up and the stuff was great. Thanks for the info.

| Bob, I don't set anywhere near 250 decoys you do but I do set about 50. We use parachute cord about 3 ft long tied directly to the decoy and on the other end, long line clips (see this site for these) http://www.atagulf.com/cgi-local/web...cgi?reset=4775. We then clip the decoys to the tarred line and use old sash weights for anchors. We have found that the 3 ft drop from the decoy to the long line allows the dogs to swim thru without a problem. The tarred line is quite stiff and we don't get a lot of tangles. I've used spools from Home Depot that are used for long extension cords to store them. Dave | ||
