Anybody Fishing Hudson Canyon

Im trying to get any reports in the area of the Texas Towers or the Hudson Canyon? It would be appreciated. Everything I hear is in the Toms Canyon or further south.

Tom.

my canyon trip 9/2 9/3

Left for an overnighter on Sunday 9/2 with plans for the Hudson. After a bait/ice/fuel stop in Montauk found ourselves on the edge at 1PM. The plan was to get to the edge west of the Dip and troll to the 100 square. There were reports of LFT at the Dip so we diverted a bit east when we arrived.

The afternoon produced one LFT and a mahi so we headed west. After a time without any KD's we pulled the spread and headed to the 100 sq. Upon arrival found a fleet of 20 boats. We trolled around for a while, saw some breaking tuna that had lock jaw. Since it was slow and crowded we trolled across the mouth of the canyon and hit the west side at dusk. Settled into a nice drift parralell to the 600 foot line and set up for the chunk.

After a while we started to mark real nicely on the sounder and I asked the crew to drop a jig to 60 feet. In seconds fish on! While fighting that fish we had 2 more rods go off but lost both of them. The pick continued all night long. We figured we went something like 5 for 11 or 12. Highlight (or low light) was seeing a hammerhead chop the back 1/3 of a 70lb LFT while we had the leader in hand and reaching with the gaff.

Back up on the troll in the morning, shot across the deep and back to the 100 sq. Trolled up the east wall and decided to turn back due to boat trafic. We were having a slow morning and heard sporadic radio reports of LFT being taken. Saw a boat take a fish and move on so we pounded the area. Had a solid hookup and fish crashing the spread. Kept the boat trolling hopeing to get a multi but didn't. When we finally got the rod into an anglers hands it came unbuttoned. Continued pounding the area and finaly put a nice YFT in the boat. When it was time to head home trolled NE and went 1 for 2 on LFT a couple miles in from the edge.

All the YFT were nice fish 70-80lb. Well I think the 2/3 fish was a little less.
