No BS Our First Mako ... FINTASTIC !!!

Decided to run SW of Montauk towards the warmer water and the spot where several of the top fish were caught in the Star Island Tournament on Saturday. Found 62 degree water and another Sharker 45 miles out. He was on a Thresher when we arrived about 7:30 am.

Had a few hits right off the bat and a small blue playing around in the slick but nothing else until about 10:00 am when one of our Penn 50's started screaming. I ran to the reel and just touched the drag ... HELLO Mr. MAKO ... 6 Footer jumped 10 feet in the air, 15 feet from the transom !!! He went deep right after that and it took 45 minutes to get him to the boat!

Hooked him on a J hook with a hunk of BLUE FISH ...

Two words; Abcolutely INCREDIBLE !!!!

Thumbs up 1st Mako

PPod,
Congrats on the mako! I got my first last season and it's a rush that stays with you all winter! Did you get an actual size and weight? We steaked ours before weighing it, but I was guessing around 125-135lbs. I'm hoping to get out next week, glad to hear they're moving in.
