Long nose Gar???photos added No I had no Idea what one was till today. While fishing in the Sebastion river(Florida) I hooked into a very large fish on light tackle. Much bigger than the 5-7 lb jacks we had been catching. when it finally surfaced I couldn't believe it close to 25-30 lb long nose gar. Pictures and full report to follow. heading out in A.M offshore. Curt Last edited by Captain Curt; 01-28-2008 at 09:58 PM. Reason: add photos

Well, just shows that y'all ain't never been fishin' in the right places. ![]() As I was growing up, we spent alot of time visiting my family in Texas, and every trip, we typically spent a week at a place called Possum Kingdom Lake (no joke, and long before I gained my moniker...). We used to catch Alligator Gar on plugs, live bait, and the trot lines we laid for Channel and Blue catfish. They are nasty buggers, truly prehistoric. We even went bow-fishing for them in the shallows, which was wicked. Cool fish, with a bad attitude!!

Kind of like a sucker. Meat is soft and mushy. Not what I would call table fare, in my opinion. My grandfather ate them, but, he was an ol' redneck roughneck from East Texas, and would eat the ass out of a rhino if he was hungry.
