Gloucester,Ma.

I noticed on the board some people asking about boats to fish on and I was surprized that no one mention Gloucester,Ma. and the many very good private and headboat fishing operations that run out of Gloucester.Gloucester has some great operators and also it is so close to the many great fishing grounds. The thing I like about Gloucester is that you spend alot less time taking a boat ride and alot more time fishing. The best fishing spots like Stellwagon,Tillies,Jefferies are all a short boat ride away and the nice thing is you have three areas to chosse from to fish ,lots and lots of productive bottom. The boats that fish out of Gloucester know where the bite is and they can get to all these places pretty easy. The way Gloucester kinda sticks out into the Atlantic just give it the advantage and really cuts down on getting to the grounds.
This summer while fishing for small bluefin tuna there where many times that the fish where anywhere from 3 to 14 miles from Gloucester with fuel prices what they are this makes a big difference.
Anyway if your planning a cod trip this spring I would recomend Gloucester,Ma. afterall it is America's oldest fishing port.

Years back I fished Glouster every friday with the Yankee Fleet Yankee Deep Sea Fishing with Record Breaking Captains. Started fishing with them when they had the old wooden Yankee Capts boat. Then they started growing they had the new Captain the Patriot ,and the Freedom . Great bunch to fish with. The fishing had slowed down and we never got back there after my Dad passed .My brother and I are going to try to make back there this year now that the fish are starting to make a comeback.
