| Wow - thats a tough one. I am gonna say it depends on the kid. There are a lot more things that can go wrong on a boat than in a car. | ||

| also depends on the boat. I am always excited to see a responsible 8 year old in a sailing dinghy. Nothing better than a 10 year old behaving in an 11 ft. whaler with low HP. There are a lot of factors that go into the decision.

| If I am correct, unless the child had the license prior to Jan of 2005 or 2006 (not sure which one) The DEP said that 12 years old they can take a boat alone. After that they changed the age to 16. I still don't think that I would let my daughter take the boat alone. and she is 14...

| Can't remember what the ages were. I think it's over 12 if accompanied by an adult and 16 alone. In a way it's ashame. It really depends on the kid and the boat. I had a 10' aluminum with a 5hp on it, plus $.35 cents in gas was good for the day. I was 10 when I got to take it alone on the lake.

| ok heres the low down, grandfathered in or not.......thats all passed. a "child" must be 16 yrs old to operate a boat with any type of motor.....period. they must also be 16 to operate a PWC.....the state ENCOURAGES children under 16 to operate boats under the supervision of an adult with a safe boating certificate. btw...anyone who operates a boat with motor MUST have a safe boating certificate, to operate a PWC, they must have the combo, safe boat and PWC. | ||

| and connecticut has just adopted to follow fedral law....anyone under 13 MUST wear a PFD while on a boat, last year it was under 12, so now it means if you are 12 and under...PFD MUST BE WORN, once you hit 13......you don't have to wear it. but as we all know it must be READILY ACCESIBLE | ||

| Chuck, What kind of certificate do you need to perform the mount you are so proudly displaying in your signature and how old do you have to be? I image you would have to take a test of some sort. Please advise. | ||
