| Gotta be 16, take the course, pass the test, have the certificate----BUT, no amount of BS course or test can make up for experience---experience under the supervision of a knowledgeable boater. I started going alone at 14, after 10 years of going with my Dad. | ||

| i have grown up my entire life around boats and the water i got my boaters license when i was 9 years old i was driving a inflatable by my self at the age of 10 with 6 horse power on it then at the age 12 i had my own 15 foot whaler with a 60horse power on it then at the age of 15 i had my own mako201 with a 150optimax on it and the thing does 55mph easily now at the age of 16 i am operating my fathers boat by myself wich is a 32 luhrs with twin 315 diesel yanmars in it. But i am not allowed to leave long island sound in it by myself but by the end of the summer i will be able to run it offshore with out my father on board to the canyons

| chuck.. our oldest has had her license since she was like 11.. Is she "grandfathered" in? You know can she take the boat alone... not that I would let her oh wait not that the Captain would let her but this has been the topic of many discussion with her.
