Interesting that this was a Sea Hunt. I had a 2001 Trophy which had a rupture in the seal at the top of the fuel sending unit, causing about 5 gallons of gas to leak into the bilge. The gas melted the housing of the bilge pump, so it failed to turn on. I cannot imagine what would have happened if that bilge pump sparked with all that fuel in the bilge. I would be damn curious to know if that boat had the same type of sending unit that the Trophy had.

Boat Explosion on 7-6-08

I AM the woman on the boat that exploded. I happened on this site through Google. I have never been able to find out just WHO it was that came to our aid that fateful day. Now, we know your name is Dave. My husband and I are both experienced boaters. Yes, it was a new boat. We do not know the cause of the explosion. If you hadn't come when you did, I hate to think what our fate would've been. I can vaguely remember a man holding me in his arms while being taken to shore. I thank you with all my heart. It wouldn't have been the same had I not had "human touch" & just been put on the deck. There is no way I can tell you how much we appreciate what you did. I was more hurt than my husband, but he got his share. I needed surgery & was in ICU at RIH. I'd go into things more, but I'm not sure you or anyone who was involved will see this. I will check back to this site & hopefully, I'll see that you got my THANK YOU. My thank you for saving our lives. You got there so quickly. You knew what to do and you gave up a good part of your day to do "the right thing". Thank you "Dave" and anyone else who was there. Thank you so very very much.
