Thread: Decorative Wraps

    Decorative Wraps

Hello Neil, thanks for the invite. In another topic, someone mentioned learning how to do decorative wraps, and that he wanted to see other's work. Neil broke down a few books which teach you how to do it, I'd like to add that Flex Coat has 2 pamplets with a few patterns in each. I hate to plug myself, but the booklet I wrote basically took all teh guesswork out of how to do a wrap, from setting up, spacing, tying off, etc - the problem with the Clemens book is that while it contained a TON of info, it was very confusing.

Anyhow, pictures of wraps.. I dont' know how to post, so I'll just link to a few of the ones which I like:

    wrap pics by Billy40

    Thanks Billy,

I appreciate your putting up the pics for TT and others to see. Wow! I was glad to see those wraps again. Never get tired of looking at them.

Any news on reprints of your booklet? Are you still planning on producing a new book?

Folks, Billy40 "IS" the leading edge of artistic wraps as you can see by the pics. If you ever see a wrap like those and my name is associated with the pic you can bet something is wrong.

Billy, please let us know when you have meetings of NERBs, where and when. This is a CT based web site and I am sure will cover most of New England. Hiopefully new members will join your group.

As the site picks up speed Billy I hope you will join us in the postings.

    Enjoy these pics TT.

    Thanks Billy.

LOL!! Neil, you are too much sometimes yourself. You do great work as well, and you have a great niche series for those who fish from boats in the North East with the Long Islander series of Custom Rods.

No more reprints, I have 10 copies left and that is all. I plan to come out with a big book with over 100 patterns in the near future. Not sure when, I'm always busy with a million things it seems.

NERBs - fun Rodbuilding club who have meetings whenever we feel like, wherever we can find someone willing to open up their shop. We've had a few up in Massachusettes & Staten Island, NY, as well as a couple in NJ, and one in LI. Lots of fun, they are totally informal, I think there is a good amount of info shared, lots of show and tell, and tehre is no cost outside of each person bringing something to eat or drink, or eat or dink out of.

I hope to see this board pick up, I've aded it to my favorites and will pass by to see if I can add anything to teh threads.

    TT,

I did not realize that Billy40 had some of his booklets available. If you want to learn how to do these wraps contact him for a booklet. You will not be disappointed. I promise!!!. The designs and how to pics are great.

I think one of the NERBs members is from CT and the wraps he does are fantastic just as Billy's and all the other members..

Yes, Sean is from CT. IMO, he does better work than I do, especially considering he just started last January. Here is a link to some of the wraps he's done: http://www.rodbuilding.org/photopost...=500&ppuser=53

Contact info for a booklet is vivonab@colsonservices.com. I hate to be plugging myself, but I really have recieved excellent eedback from builders of all levels who feel the book has really helped them with their wraps. If you want to learn, you really dont' have many options out here, the Clemens book is currently out of print, tht's pretty much the Bible of Thread Art.

Sean built my custom Cod Rod, and I love that thing. I used to have pix of the finished wrap, but I can't find them (I guess I need to take some pix myself). Anyhow, here is the wrap before the expoy:

The rod is simply awesome in itself, built on a Seeker Black Steel blank, cut to 8' 2". Can hang a jig to 24 Oz or fish bait just as well. The wrap is what drew me to Sean's work, but the product is the best.
